I had a fantastic time at my first Readercon. Got to spend a good amount of time talking to
mroctober and
ellen_datlow, as well as finally meeting some of my Twitter #sffwrtcht friends and folks I've interviewed. Sometime tomorrow I'll be mentally prepared to do a longer post about the panels and such (and some other thoughts that flitted through my head on the long drive home!), but for now I just want to catalog my haul. (I refuse to call it "swag.")
THE BOOKS I BROUGHT WITH ME TO GET SIGNED:
Steve Berman (the aforementioned Mr October, also @thesteveberman on Twitter) graciously signed my copies of VINTAGE, SECOND THOUGHTS and TRYSTS.
Leah Petersen (@leahpetersen) signed my copy of FIGHTING GRAVITY.
Ellen Kushner (@ellenkushner) and Delia Sherman (@deliasherman) both signed my hardcover of THE FALL OF THE KINGS, a book that influenced me greatly when I first read it in 2002.
I brought Larry Closs's BEATITUDE with me, but he wasn't there.
Also brought my copy of TEETH, already signed by Ellen Datlow, Steve Berman & Genevieve Valentine, but then forgot to trot it out when I met Nathan Ballingrud. Whoops!
BOOKS I GOT THERE:
I purchased two out-of-print books from Ellen Datlow, and she signed both of them for me: LETHAL KISSES (recently re-released in ebook format, with a slightly different story line-up) as WILD JUSTICE) and VANISHING ACTS.
My #SFFWRTCHT buddy Sabrina Vourvoulias ( @followthelede on Twitter) was 1/4th of the CROSSED GENRES reading on Saturday, and it was great to hear her read from her forthcoming novel INK. So great, in fact, that I had to buy an uncorrected ARC of the book today before I left -- it's signed by her, but not personalized because she'd already headed out for Philly before I bought it. At the same time, I also bought her fellow reader Daniel Jose Older's SALSA NOCTURNA: STORIES ... also signed, but not personalized.
On the not-signed side of things: Steve gave me a couple of ARCs from Lethe Press (Trebor Healey's FAUN and Rigoberto Gonzalez' MARIPOSA GOWN) to review, and Sven Davisson of Rebel Satori Press was kind enough to gift me a copy of Tristram Burden's MY HERO: A WILD BOY'S TALE. I also purchased Lethe's WILDE STORIES 2012, and Rebel Satori's reprints of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's VRIL and Willis George Emerson's THE SMOKY GOD as well as Peter Dube's SUBTLE BODIES. And from the good folks at Crossed Genres Publications, I also picked up the last two issues of their Quarterly compendiums of their magazine.
So. yeah, I ended up with a really good haul of stuff. Now to find time to read it all!!!!
