The weather here in Nashville has been so-so. Last night, I thought it was going to rain more than it did so I had dinner at the hotel. Not a bad thing, as the wait-staff recognizes me from my two or three visits a year and the food is generally good. But by the end of teaching today, I was feeling a bit of cabin-fever having been in the hotel for close to 48 hours straight. So despite the fact that it was raining heavier tonight than it was last night, I went ahead and drove up to the Ruby Tuesdays and had dinner. Whilst driving around, I almost (but not quite) finished listening to Jim Butcher's SMALL FAVOR. There are just a few tracks left on the last cd, so I suspect within a half-hour of departing tomorrow I will finish that book and start Bill Willingham's PETER & MAX (read by Wil Wheaton).
According to goodreads, where I'm now keeping track of my library (slowly, oh so slowly), I am 85% done reading THE WAY OF THE WIZARD, edited by John Joseph Adams, and I'm 68% of the way done with Lois McMaster Bujold's THE CURSE OF CHALION, which is the January selection for the book club run by
calico_reaction . I will most likely finish the Wizard anthology by tomorrow night and for the rest of the trip my short story reading will be from the various magazines I brought with me. When I'm done with CHALION it will be time to start the book our office book club decided on, THE RELIABLE WIFE. But that will be a few days yet, I'm sure. I don't feel like starting another novel until I'm done with CHALION.
I vacillated about the drive to Atlanta for most of Monday night and therefore did not sleep well. Would it be wiser to leave today (Tuesday) after class, or risk the impending snow on Weds? The hazards of driving at night were slick roads from the rain and a 5 hour drive on top of a long teaching day and very little sleep. The hazards of driving tomorrow are that even though it will be daylight, there may be several inches of snow on the ground.
Just checked the forecast in a few places, and it seems like they now think there won't be much accumulation at all. It's sounding like I made the smart choice by waiting. We shall see when I wake up if I still think that was a smart choice.
