I cannot believe our Relay For Life at Mahopac High School is just a week away. June 5th and 6th.  I will be there all of the 5th, but will have to leave after the Luminaria ceremony because I'll be on a plane to Cincinnati for work on the 6th.

During the day on the 5th, I will be at our team booth signing copies of my book The Firflake.  I have 50 copies to sell, and the profits go to the American Cancer Society.

I know lots of people are doing Relays in the next month. If you can contribute to even one Relay event this season, please do. If you can spread the money around and donate to several ... even better. That's what I've been doing. I've donated to Relays in NJ and MA in addition to my own. Nominal donations, $10 or so at best, but enough to show support to my fellow Relayers around the nation.

Here's my original post about Relay, and the links to donate to my particular Team:

Dear Friends and Family,

I'm sure many of you were looking at your calendar thinking, "Doesn't Anthony usually hit us up for a donation to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life around now?"  So, of course, having read your collective minds ... here I am.

What a year it's been.  Last year's Relay at Mahopac High School was several months earlier than normal and much shorter than normal, but we still had fun and raised a lot of money. This year, our Relay is back to the traditional early June spot (June 5-6, 2010) and the usual length (overnight!).  Our team, Friends Helping Friends Find A Cure, is larger than ever with a higher goal amount than ever before.  And much to my pride and joy, our team captains, my cousins Chrissy and Jimmy Hajkowski, are also the Honorary Co-Chairs for this year's Relay.  Chrissy has faced some real cancer challenges this year and always inspires me with her enthusiasm, her love, her unwillingness to let cancer have its way.  And Jimmy, our Big Lug, is the strong & silent to Chrissy's loud & proud.

Cancer has beaten us up this year. We've lost people famous (Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze) and not (our friends Tommy Lombardi and Bog Hagan).  We have people still fighting the hard battle (my fellow livejournaler and author jaylake , our Crissy).  And we have people beating cancer back every day.  Too many people in each category to name individually, but they (you, if you're reading this) are constantly in my thoughts.

This September will mark 5 years since my colon cancer surgery.  My 6 word memoir was published a few months back: "After cancer, I became a semi-colon." Laughter IS the best medicine, after all.

All of this rambling.  Get to the point, Anthony!

I know times are tight, and I know you're getting tons of requests for donations from all manner of charities through all manner of friends.  I have a goal of raising $4,000 this year personally.  I'm doing lots of things to support that (collecting dimes in soda bottles, selling books and cds and such and putting the money towards the goal, donating a dollar for every book I read and a quarter for every short story I read up to Relay, etc). I'm hoping many of you will support me as well, by following the link below and making some donation, no matter how small. $5 really does make a difference.

Several of you do other Cancer Fundraisers throughout the year.  I always enjoy hearing your stories about how those events went, so please email me back and share your news!  I'll try to include it in my blog!
