weekend

I've been a bit on the silent side.  Thursday night I did some good writing on a project for STAPA, first fiction I"ve seriously worked on in the realm of super-heroes in a long time.  Deadline constraints are turning it into a "teaser" for where I want to go with my characters rather than a full on story, but hey, it's writing and I actually like the scenes I've written.

Saturday I caught up with an old high school/college friend for a late lunch.  Chrissy and I have not seen each other in person in 12 years, since her wedding.  Conversation was easy, pictures were swapped, and we talked about writing.  Several hours passed as though they were several minutes instead.  We won't wait 12 years to do it again, now that we live about an hour and a half from each other.

Sunday was NYC ComicCon.  In brief:

* Took two of my adopted nephews in, Danny and Max, and they enjoyed themselves.  At 16, they're capable of amusing themselves while Uncle Thanny discusses comissioned art with graphic novelists.  And Danny actually managed to make a good deal on a complete "Barry Ween, Boy Genuis" run.  Max just enjoyed  people-watching mostly.

* Met up with several old high school friends, as per usual for CC.  Coordinating who was where and finding each other was the usual set of hassles, but we all got to sit down to dinner together.

* Did not see fellow STAPAn Dan Sehn.  Bummer.

* Most enjoyable half-hour:  chatting with Tim Fish, creator of the graphic novel series "A Cavalcade of Boys," amongst others.  Tim's a great guy, easy to chat with, and a great artist.  Check him out at www.timfishworks.com and tell him Anthony sent you.  I bought the newest "Cavalcade" GN and read it on the train home ... review up tonight probably.  We also chatted about the commissioned "middle era Teen Titans beach party" pic he's doing for me.  Can't wait for that, now that his schedule is calming down a bit!

* Coolest Moment(s):  Spending twenty minutes chatting with William Katt.  Great guy, very easy to talk to.  Helped that at the moment I walked up there was no one on line behind me, but what was cool was our conversation had nothing to do with television, comics, etc.  We actually talked about the environment and my job.  He signed a picture from "Pippin" for me, and then Max took a picture of William and I together.  We didn't think to get a picture of the boys with him.  Should have done.

* Disappointing moment: Daniel Dae Kim, "Jin" on LOST, was a last minute addition to the autographs area.  I didn't find out until his signing period was half over, and the line for him was still stretched way across the convention floor.  Next time, pay attention to the autograph area signs when you get there!

Day went by too fast as usual, but I'm glad I went.  Next year, I'll try to have a better battle plan ...
