Thursday night I discovered there's a new Tobias Wolff short story collection out. That really made my night, as I love pretty much everything Wolff has written. I'll be starting to read that as soon as I'm done with John Connolly's short story collection "Nocturnes."
Friday night, I had dinner with some friends whom I have not spoken to since leaving the place of former employment over a year ago. I had worked there with the wife and like many people still working there after my departure, she had a hard time reconciling friendship with the bitter terms on which I was cut loose from the job. I heard through the grapevine that she just departed the place of former employment herself, and when I mentioned to a mutual friend that I wished her only the best and did miss her friendship, that mutual friend subtly suggested that now might be the time to reach out and "affect a reconciliation" as it were. I emailed her, she emailed back, and she and her husband invited me over to dinner.
I owe quite a bit to that third party, I think, for bringing the reunion about. But he's requested to be left unnamed, so I didn't even mention him over dinner.
The rest of the weekend? Sleeping. Reading. Laundry. The usual.
