Hey, kids! I managed to see TWO whole episodes of Smallville in a row ....!
Well, I finally got to see Laura Vandervroot as Kara ... and of course, she's amnesiac. Oh well.
I thought this episode was heavy-handed to say the least. Many of the scenes were overplayed. The motivations of the obstensible "bad guy" were never really fully explained. He was left as a cardboard "I'm jealous and want you to stay with me" type. Yes, there was that one line about knowing what it felt like to have to start over, people never really trusting you ... but it didn't go anywhere. Unless this guy is going to come back later in the season, he pretty much was a plot point more than a character.
Michael Rosenbaum did get to chew the scenery quite a bit, which was nice. Always a good thing in my book. His scenes inside his own head were pure melodrama. I especially loved the scene where he forces Clark to watch him and Lana have sex ... and he aims Clark's head directly at a close-up of Lex, eyes closed in bliss.
I got to see Chloe's power in action, and it's sort of obvious that at some point they're going to give her a for-real dramatic death. I predict when the series ends, Chloe will sacrifice herself to save someone else. She'll go out on top.
Not a great episode at all. But hey, at least I've now seen three eps. We'll see if I make next week's.
