So really, what does it say about our expectations for marriage when Sean and Robin Wright Penn, who have been married 11 years, are described as a "long-standing Hollywood couple?" If 11 years is some kind of record, I'm deeply saddened.
When I think of "long standing Hollywood couples," I think of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft ... even Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson will be married 20 years in 2008.
I'm sure others can think of good examples that fall somewhere between the classic old-timers and the Hanks'.
