A Sundry Post on a Friday

I haven't updated in a while and thought it might be time.

It's been warm here in Nevada, but *crossed fingers* not as hot as I'd imagined summers in Vegas. We didn't go to SD this year because of 1) gas prices and 2) not wanting to face the school and likely flood damage. It has been odd not seeing our friends up there and getting into the different routine of doing fixes and projects around the place. They had a pretty wet summer though, so just as glad to not have been there.

So, with all of this extra time, why have I not been accomplishing more? I'm still fiddling with the ending of Weeping Women Springs. I have just a couple more thousand words to go most likely, but have been struggling to get there. I think it's because I know it isn't "right" yet, but I need to write the "wrong" one to find the right one, if that makes sense. :)

I've got a couple of ideas for new projects and have been doing a bit of research on them.

This week was the WriteonCon free on line writer's conference. It's geared mostly to YA/ MG and children's writers but as with anything there are helpful things you can pick up in the forums and chats.

One thing I'd been interested in hearing opinions about was author brands and how important it was to stick to a genre. I asked the question in one of the agent chats and got interesting answers. One said he worked hard to create an author's brand while another said she liked her clients to explore various genres. I guess this would be something to talk with an agent offering representation. Since I have several projects of quite different genres I would want to have someone who would be okay with that.

I'm expecting the copies of the From Shadows and Nightmares anthology to arrive any day now. It's been a bit of an experience to get this far with it. I'll let everyone know when and where you can get copies.

from shadows and nightmares, summer, agents, author brands, weeping women springs, writeoncon
