A Monday Update

It's been a while since I've posted. Much the same has been going on, therefore the lack of posting.

The tragedy in Japan has us feeling for the people there. The boyfriend lived there for a while both as an exchange student and a visiting professor so has a special empathy for the plight of the Japanese. Our thoughts are with them as they begin a road to recovery. They are an amazing people so I know they will survive and perhaps even flourish. What makes me happy is the people of the world uniting in this time to send aid. Though I wish it didn't take this kind of event to make us realize we are all in this together, I think it helps to remind us of this all important fact. If we could only focus on our similarities rather than differences, how much better off would we be?

Have been flashing over at Liberty Hall except for one week missed since the beginning of the year, so that's all good. I haven't taken much time to revise anything yet, but have a couple of ideas on markets to submit to, so perhaps that will happen soon. Last week's story tied for best of flash so I was pleased with that, I may need to work on that story first.

I also have been exploring a link I found through Liberty Hall called Show Me Your Lits, which is a similar site that has weekly flash fiction challenges of the literary variety. I participated there last week for the first time and very much enjoyed that. I think my writing lends itself to literary a bit more. Confessions of a former English Teacher.

On the revision front. I've arrived at another monumental revision decision. I'm rewriting the MC's story line. In this particular novel, her story line runs throughout the vignettes about the town Weeping Women Springs. I'd deliberately avoided writing what I think will make the story stand out. Why the reservations? It's a challenge, for one. I think I needed to get into the space and confidence with my own writing to be able to write it. Also, there was a political question for me that I didn't really want to address in the story, but I think it's the only way the story will come together. It means some of what I've written will be tossed, though some will be salvageable within the framework of this new tact. My work is definitely cut out for me. I'm still hoping to finish by summer though, which means some serious writing time needs to take place.

I've submitted the revisions requested for the anthology ghost story already accepted for publication. It's been a couple of weeks and haven't heard from her, so hope that is good news.

Guess that's about all for the moment.
