Went and saw Terminator 4!
It was pretty epic; the reviews are correct in that the story-line is a bit difficult to follow if you haven't watched the earlier ones, but if you have it's just like more Terminator, and badass too.
Although, um, really? Marcus giving up his heart to transplant to John Connor? Definitely shattered my suspension of disbelief into a million tiny pieces, something that giant robots and fighter planes sucking up fuel the Resistance probably can't spare didn't even manage to do. First of all... No. John already made a big impact by blowing up that Skynet facility; that could well have been the big thing he was supposed to do, and he only managed it because Marcus was there to fend off the T800. To me, the benefits of having an Infiltrator far outweigh the benefits of having John Connor, who will probably just go and get himself beaten up again anyways, while Marcus can bear the full attention of a T800 and fare relatively well against it.
Aside from that, there's the whole thing where they don't even know Marcus's blood type and didn't test for it or anything, and transplanted the organ anyways. Connor may very well die a few hours after the movie from host-graft disease as his body rejects the transplanted tissue. Plus, they don't have the supplies or expertise to carry out such a surgery; it was said earlier in the movie that antibiotics and that sort of thing are scarce. And even if the heart was a match, Connor would still be on immune system suppressants for the rest of his life to prevent his body from rejecting the foreign material anyway, and he probably wouldn't even live to be shot at again; he'd just die of an infected scratch or a cold or something. Also, how do you live if you get impaled and subsequently need a heart transplant? If something like that hits your heart, I think you may have other things to worry about.
That said, it was entertaining and worth watching, so long as you've watched one and two in the series. The sudden appearance of CG-Arnold was pretty cool; they did a really excellent job of making him look like the real thing, and it would be pretty terrifying to open a door and suddenly naked Arnold was attacking you.
Helena Bonham Carter always gets the creepy roles.
In other news, my 360 still isn't here. *flail*
Also, watched Cloverfield for the first time! It was entertaining (except for the first bit), but frustrating to watch. That one guy pretty much got everyone killed since they, for some reason, decided that he would make a good leader and that going back toward the giant scary monster was permissible so long as they were following someone else's lead. I would have left long before then. Also, when, like, every single rat in the subway has been agitated enough to make a run for it, that is a pretty strong hint. Rats are smart critters and I trust their judgement on such things.
