Announcing the 5th Anniversary of our ficfest!!!

Mirrors and Reflections of Harry and Ginny

The world of Harry Potter is full of mirrors and reflections:  Literal mirrors like the Mirror of Erised and the two-way communication mirrors Sirius gave to Harry, or figurative reflections like James and Lily appearing again in the form of Harry and Ginny.  Mirrors in the wizarding world are so much more than just a looking glass, they can show Harry and Ginny what was, what will be, or what they desire to bring into being.  And figurative reflections can be beautiful and perfect like the identical images of Fred and George or dark and twisted like the similarities between Tom Riddle and Harry Potter.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this fifth anniversary celebration of takingitinturns, as long as you’re willing to fulfill a request for either artwork or fiction.  All ratings and all genres are included, romance, drama, mystery, or horror, whether it’s canon or AU - as long as it’s Harry/Ginny, we’d love to have it!

The directions are really simple:  You make a request, we mix and match, and then send you another person’s request to fulfill.  You write or draw something for that person and someone else creates a gift for you.  At the end of the fest, we’ll all have new Harry/Ginny to enjoy!

We're thrilled to be here!  Your new mods, snuggle_muggle and carrickorourke

Rules & Guidelines:
1. This fest is for fun! We're all here to celebrate the characters we love together in a community environment. It's Harry and Ginny, it's fabulous fanart and fanfic... what's not to love? Have a good time, relax and enjoy the exchange.

The mods are here to help make this fun for everyone. Respect your fellow fans and your mod, and keep comments courteous and friendly. Everyone has different ideas about Harry & Ginny's relationship, and part of the fun of the exchange is to see those ideas in action. Critique is welcome -- insults are not. If you can't chill out, you will be banned.

2. This is an exchange fest -- for the fest to work, it has to be a two-way street: you request AND contribute a gift for another person. Signing up is a commitment to write or draw for another person; please don't sign up unless you know you can keep that commitment. Names of dropouts will be listed publicly at the conclusion of the fest. Everyone who signs up must eventually complete and post their assigned story or artwork in order to participate in a future round -- if this means that you post your story two years after it was assigned, then great! A late story is better than no story at all, and we are always happy to have more Harry/Ginny.

3. Anyone of any age can sign up -- no prior experience required! You need a livejournal account, so you can post your work to the community.

4. Works of any rating are welcome! However, if you or your recipient are under 18 years of age, please stick to ratings below R.

5. Fic and art should incorporate the concept of mirrors and reflections within a story about Harry and Ginny and their romantic relationship. Of course, other characters and concepts can be used, too. Please no character- or ship-bashing. This is a Harry/Ginny community, and the main focus of your story should be Harry and Ginny with each other. Stories which focus primarily on Harry leaving Ginny for someone else, or Ginny leaving Harry for someone else will not be accepted.

6. Stories and artwork should be of finished quality. Everyone should use a beta to make their work the best possible. Stories must be at least 1,000 words long, and must be complete when posted. Long stories are welcome, but must be formatted in as few parts as possible, and all parts must be posted on the same day. Artwork must be a filled-out sketch or finished piece -- no "drawbles." Accepted artwork is defined as an illustration created by the artist using traditional or computer media. Photo manipulations, graphics, or icons will not be accepted.

7. Posting of stories and artwork is not anonymous, but it should be a surprise! Please try to keep your assignment a secret until your work is posted.

8. Post your story/artwork to this community anytime before May 20. Include the full story text or artwork in the community post - not just a link. Please wait until after the master list is posted on May 27 before posting your story elsewhere, including your personal journal or other websites/archives.

9. On June 1 all unfilled requests will be made available to the community for pinch hitters. However, only those who have already posted their assigned works will be eligible to receive pinch-hit gifts.

Signup Form:
THIS IS NOT THE POST WHERE YOU SIGN UP. Signups will open March 10.
The form is provided so you can take your time and fill it out in advance if you like that kind of thing.

Try to give your writer/artist enough suggestions to work with, but not to overwhelm. If requesting art, please make art-friendly requests. For example, colors or styles you enjoy (blue, art deco), settings or scenes (The Burrow, playing Quidditch), or just individual details (candles, scarves, sunrise) can all be very helpful to artists. Art requests are dependent on the number of artists who sign up (of course!). Feel free to offer both fic and artwork if you are multi-talented -- there's no need to choose in advance.
