Mary' Prayer

Taking a break from the series to add a poem for the Christmas Season.  You can find the Long Search, Zodiac, and Faces of Love series in my Memories.

Mary's Prayer

Here he is, Father, after all these months,
just as your messenger promised.
And, Oh!  He' perfect, Father; perfect, and
beautiful beyond my imaginings.

See how He smiles serenely in  His sleep.
Is He laughing at this rough place wherein
we've laid Him?  Or is it simply that,
being a child, He is unconcerned?

Soon the word will spread throughout
the land.  King and shepherd boy will
come to share His birth.

But for now - He is mine, Father -
Mine and Yours.  I know I may not
keep Him long, Father.  He has much
to do in this unhappy world.  Much
to change.
And men making changes seldom
see old age.

Father, give me the wisdom to guide
His unsteady feet into the future.
Courage to accept that future with
all that it entails.
And serenity, knowing that you have
planned this day, and all the days to
follow, with infinite understanding
and infinite love.

Amen.
