[Private to the Admiral]

Could I please have Reaver's gun - I don't know, his favourite - and a supply of bullets? If you could give me thirty and make them so they top up every month like everything else does, that'd be great.

...

I hope you're, uh. Feeling better.

[Private to Reaver]

Thought we might go hunting today. I mean, you can hunt, I'll just ( Read more... )

Very difficult to hunt without weaponry, I've found. It's more like stalking than hunting.

Don't be a prat, Reaver. I've got your gun off the Admiral.

Why this change of heart?

I can be spontaneous sometimes. It's part of my charm.

Meet you on deck in an hour.

I suppose I could spare an hour or two for quality time.

It's not like you've got anything better to do. I'll see you up there.

I very well might. You cannot be certain.

You might have other things to do. That's different.

[No further comment, he'll just be hangin' around on deck waiting for you, Reaver.]

[Reaver appears ondeck, dressed for an outing but still wearing that look of perpetual waiting-to-be-satisfied-ness that just seems to come naturally to him.]

[Merlin, for his part, has spent years developing a complete nonchalance towards that look. He just smiles and waves, pushing away from where he's leaning against the doorframe that leads to the upper deck.]

Afternoon.

[He opens the door for Reaver, steps through first and holds it open behind him.]

[Inside he steps, and he pauses inside to breathe in the new air. He's not long distracted by such things however. Remembering there was mention of his pistol being returned, he glances toward Merlin expectantly.]

[Merlin's tempted to ask Reaver to say please, but he knows that courtesy has no value when it's been demanded. He holds out the gun - privately he's pleased to be rid of it, if only for a while. It's fully loaded, the rest of the ammunition still in his bag.]

I'll need it back when we're finished here.

[Tightly] Of course. [He rotates the pistol on one finger with characteristic flourish, then holsters it.] Now to determine what manner of game we'll find. [He raises an eyebrow] Did you bring no weapon of your own?

[He tucks his hands in his coat pockets.] I wasn't planning on killing anything.

[Plus he's never really...needed a weapon. He has a sword and maybe even a bow somewhere, but they were mostly to stop him getting killed before there was a window of opportunity for him available to use his magic. Here on the Barge, that sort of window dressing doesn't feel necessary.]
