You mistake me, archangel. I never said they had to do it on their own. Only that they have to do it like they mean it.

Are they not doing it like they mean it? Perhaps not what you would have previously assigned yourself, but they have their convictions and they are organized to an almost articulate degree.

I think the problem here is not that inmates refuse to go quietly but that a good degree of the wardens, such as yourself, are running around like a rooster with its head cut off.

Am I acting that way? Do you see me panicked, or angry? I am a Warden here, and I will act in that role - which is to provide guidance.

I said quite clearly that this most recent rash of violence and scheming is meaningless when it lacks backbone. To act and succeed they would have to cast aside the very things that have made them Inmates. They will never defy us so long as they possess their moral codes, their inability to go as far as we will. Their goodness, if you will.

And if they do go so far, if they do abandon those things? They will graduate, and ultimately we will still win.

Who are you to decide what is inherently good in someone? Or claim that any one person lacks that trait entirely? If you feel you are without moral code you are mistaken. Nothing is without that trait. Perhaps you might take some time, child, and gather insight to go along with the guidance you wish to present.

I did not decide. The Admiral made that choice when he drew that line and decided who would be an Inmate and who would not. 'Good' is a hollow word, I agree, but it is the one they would use and it serves. Nor did I say I have no moral code, simply one that is markedly different from that of the average Inmate.

You do yourself a disservice in trying to create a quarrel between us where there is none.

I do not cause pain and suffering. I give punishment and consequence. It matters not the creed or the status of who receive it but what sins they committed to deserve it.
