Mind Games
Chapter 1
“Damnit!” Ruka exclaimed. “Where did my drumsticks go?!” the random outburst made Hitsugi and Yomi burst out in laughter. Ruka crossed his arms across his chest, thinking for a second; he thought Yomi had something to do with his precious drumstick’s disappearance, especially because of what he did the other day… “Damnit Yomi, did you do this?” it took a few seconds for Yomi to gather himself together to answer the elder.
“Now what motive would I have to hide your precious drumsticks?” the vocalist’s reply had him and the youngest laughing again. Now is when Sakito walked into the room which was filled with laughter.
“Then it had to be you, Hitsugi.” This made Yomi laugh even harder.
“Ruka-kun, your drumsticks are in your hands…” Sakito stated. “You were pointing them at Yomi and Hitsugi when you were blaming them for hiding ‘em…” Now Yomi and Hitsugi were laughing uncontrollably. “Is this why you two were laughing so hard?!”
“Hell yeah!” Hitsugi said through his laughter. “We wanted to see how long he would go before he actually had a brain.” Ruka then threw one of his drumsticks and it hit the guitarist in the head.
“Hey Ruka,” Yomi started, and he picked up the drumstick. “Found one of your drumsticks!” This made the two laugh again. Yomi and that cute laugh of his… no, don’t think like that; he’s your friend, Ruka!! Two voices were inside his head. “Ru, you ok?” Ruka looked up at Yomi.
“Yomi, could I speak with you privately?” The other members fell silent. Ruka started out the door, and Yomi lifted himself off the couch to follow. As soon as the door fell closed behind him, Yomi spoke up.
“Ruka, if this is about what I said the other day…”
“Yomi, how long are we gonna hide it?” Yomi looked confused and before answering, Ruka lowered his voice. “Us.” Now Yomi was shocked.
“But… you… were silent… and… you never-“
“Yomi, I’ve been thinking and I-“
“Ruka I was dared to do that!” Now Ruka’s mind wasn’t here, him standing in front of Yomi and outside their practice room, but a few days ago…
He was with Yomi, and the two were at a small restaurant; it was al Yomi’s idea, because they were close, to go out to a small lunch They talked about the new single, recording sessions, and then somehow Yomi got Ruka talking about more personal stuff, like old relationships.
It was after their waitress left that Yomi spoke up, since he had been hearing Ruka go on about his high school relationships for some time now.”Satoru, I have to tell you something, but you can’t tell the band; it’s just between us?”Ruka nodded, as to say yes and to continue. The younger went to speak, but failed each time he tried. He then took the pen that was in his ear and started writing on his napkin. A few seconds passed until he stopped writing. Yomi read what he had written over, and then he just sat there as if he was deciding to give it to the elder or not. Before Yomi could decide, though, Ruka reached across the small table and took the napkin out of the younger’s sight. Yomi tried to protest, but all attempts ended in failure. Ruka ran his eyes over the napkin, and all he saw were four symbols he was used to seeing from Yomi, but only in the younger’s lyrics: 愛してる (I love you) Ruka sat there a few more seconds, in silence, before he got up.
He held the napkin tight in his hand.
Ruka reached into his pocket and brought forth that very same napkin, pointing at it while he spoke. “So this was just, what? A prank?” Yomi was taken aback, and he started to shake his head from side to side. “But you just said that you were dared to do this! Jun, I-I think I feel the same for you, but apparently these past two days with me thinking about how I could be happy… apparently were wasted…” Yomi was still shaking his head back and forth. Back and forth those precious features shook. The elder watched as one small tear left those brown eyes, and then he watched as Yomi ran passed him and down the hallway before Ruka slumped on the wall, realizing the younger was gone, and probably not coming back. Ruka slumped down, and sat on the ground, his arms loosely around his knees. He just sat there, for how long he didn’t know, but he lifted his head when he heard footsteps; he was hoping it was Yomi coming back. He was quickly disappointed, for he saw Ni~ya walking up, his bass tight in his grasp. As soon as he saw Ruka, he started to walk faster towards the drummer.
“Ruka-kun, what’s wrong?” Ni~ya asked as he se his bass don on the floor and he knelt down to see Ruka at the drummer’s level.
“I’m not quite sure what I did, but I upset Yomi; he ran off.” Ni~ya paused for a second, and then gave a small sigh.
“Ru-chan,” Ni~ya looked away, and Ruka looked up; Ni~ya never called him -chan… “I ran into Yomi on the way up here. I asked him what was wrong, but he only cried harder.” Hearing this made Ruka lay his head within he hand, and he continued to listen to the bassist. “I thought you might know… maybe I can figure it out if you tell me everything that happened.” Ruka then went to speak, but he stopped himself. How could he tell his bandmate, his best friend, that he loved Yomi, and he heart was now broken because of a simple dare?
“D-Do you know about the dare with Yomi?” Ni~ya sat there and gave a quiet sigh.
“I don’t know much except that Sakito made the dare. Him and Hitsugi.”
“Damn…” Ruka then sprung up to his feet and ran inside. The two still in the room jumped at the door hitting the wall and then slamming closed.
“Where’d Yomi go?” Sakito asked. Ruka ignored the question, and asked one of his own.
“So which on e of you made te dare, eh?” the two that were asked looked at each other.
“What dare?”
“No, rather which.” Hitsugi corrected. “I make a lot of dares all out of fun, but none to you. Or Yomi for that matter. Only Sakito and Ni~ya, cause I know they’ll take them.” After what Hitsugi had said, Ruka glared at the band’s leader, not even realizing that Ni~ya had entered the room.
“Sakito, you son of a bitch.” Sakito looked offended, and couldn’t say anything, because Ruka kept talking. “That dare you made with Yomi, he left crying. Just now because I went to talk to him about it.”
“Ruka, it was just a dare…-wait, why did you speak to him about it?” Sakito put a sly smile on his face, but it was soon taken off when Ruka’s hand made contact with it.
“Your fukin dare sent him home crying, well rather he just ran off… but still, you made the dare, you are at fault here.”
“Ruka, don’t go laying protector here. Yomi took my dare with a smile on his face.” Sakito was talking to the drummer, with their faces close.
The guitarist’s hand was holding tight to the drummer’s gray t-shirt. “I am not at fault here. If anyone is, it would be Yomi.”Ruka tore Sakito’s hand off of his shirt and started to walk out of the practice room. This enraged Sakito. “Where the fuck do you think you’re going?!” He grabbed Ruka’s shoulder, causing the other to stop and turn to the band’s leader.
“Making sure that Yomi is alright. And with that Ruka was out of the room; he left tense filing the room.
When Ruka was nearing the staircase, he reached into his pocket to pull out his cell phone. He opened the device while running down the stairs, stepping two at a time, and scrolled through his contacts, seeing Yomi’s number as his first speed dial. Ruka pressed the call button, and he was surprised when the younger picked up.
“Satoru, I’m so sorry I ran off.”
“You don’t have to apologize. I just need to know where you are”
“I’m at my apartment, why?”
“I’ll be right there.” Ruka closed his phone, ending the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket where it previously was. Out the door he went and he walked to the vocalist’s apartment, which was about a block from their practice place. The normal ten minute walk only took the drummer about five minutes; he was eager to see Yomi in good heath and emotionally sound.
Arriving at the younger’s apartment, he didn’t have to wait for Yomi to open the door, for the younger was waiting at the door for Ruka, and had the door opened before the drummer could even knock. Ruka silently walked inside the apartment and into the living room. They both sat down, sitting on opposite ends of the room. Silence engulfed both the room’s inhabitants for a handful of minutes until Yomi broke the silence between the two yet again.
“I shouldn’t have ran off. I’m sorry, Satoru. Damn I feel so bad. I’m such a… Coward…” Not once did Yomi make eye contact with the drummer while he spoke, looking at his petite hands held nervously on his lap. Mentioned person got up off of his chair and walked over to the vocalist, placing his hands on the younger’s shoulders.
“Jun, look at me.” and that Yomi did. “You are not a coward. This situation is a very… awkward one.” Yomi nodded his head at this. “Just tell me why you ran off.” It was now that Yomi broke his eye contact with the drummer.
“I’m not sure if I should…”
Ruka sighed at the answer given. “You can tell me, Yomi-chan.” Yomi shook his head back and forth. “Jun. I don’t like the awkwardness of everything that’s going on right now, and I don’t think that you do either.”
“I don’t. I really don’t. But there is so much that you don’t know, Sato-kun. But I- I only took that dare because saying that to you, saying that I love you… It had been long overdue.” Ruka’s face lit up right there. He cupped the younger’s smooth cheek within his hand, and Yomi leaned into the touch; he placed his smaller hand atop of the drummer’s own. His head leaned in close to Yomi’s, but the only thing touching was their foreheads. Yomi went to lean into a kiss, but there was guilt that was there, and this prevented him from capturing the drummer’s lips.
“Yomi-chan… Come-“
“Here…” Yomi shook his head from side to side, standing on the other side of the room. “Yomi-chan, come-“
“Don’t call me… -chan.” Yomi said quietly. His voice was shaking terribly; he didn’t want this, not one bit.
“Oh, I can call you whatever I want. Come here, Yomi-chan.” The vocalist continued to shake his head from side to side. “This is apart of the dare…” The man on the other side of the room moved closer to Yomi. He walked slowly and seducively, reaching out his callused fingers to hold the younger’s shoulder.
“No, no N-“
“Ni~ya…” Yomi spoke the bassist’s name.
“Hm?”
“Ni-san was the… the ‘second’ part of the dare.” By now Yomi had let Ruka sit in the chair, and Yomi took his rightful place of sitting on his lap.
“What do you mean?” and at this Yomi gave a sigh. He wanted to avoid this question…
“I mean there is more to the dare than you know. And Ni~ya… he helped Sakito make the dare.” Yomi rested his head against Ruka’s shoulder with a small sigh, and he began to explain that day…
It was after Ruka had left the practice room, for practice was done for the day; and only seconds passed until Hitsugi had left the room as well. So now before the vocalist stood two men, Sakito and Ni~ya.
“Alright, Yomi-kun.” Sakito started. “It’s time you know your dare, ne?” Yomi took in a big breath, and nodded. He had been waiting all day. Sakito didn’t tell the vocalist his dare, because of the people around… “Alright… So I am daring you to tell our lovely drummer that you love him.” Yomi had a look of surprise all over his face. Sakito took this surprise as that Yomi was surprised about the dare, but Yomi was wearing this surprise for a different reason. He thought that Sakito knew that that’s how the younger really felt for the drummer. Swallowing hard, Yomi spoke up, an he was cutting off the guitarist… Yet he had a slight smile on his face…
“I’ll take the dare.” Yomi had said it fast and low; Sakito almost didn’t hear him. “But…” the vocalist’s voice was back to normal now. “Why is Ni~ya here?”
“That’s a very good question, Jun-chan.” Ni~ya said. Hearing the bassist, Yomi felt as if he was back in school, and he scoffed at the childish tag to his name. The blonde started to walk towards the vocalist slowly. Why did he call me -chan? Yomi asked himself; he could only think that it’s because of his height.
“I’m not that short, Ni-kun…” and Yomi gave one of his adorable pouts, and that forced the bassist to give a chuckle. There was a small silence as Ni~ya walked over to Yomi and leaned towards the younger’s ear to whisper.
“I’m here because there is a second part to the dare that you have already accepted. That second part is…” Ni~ya leaned in closer to the vocalist’s ear, and he lowered his voice slightly. “That I get the pleasure to fuck your little ass.” Yomi pushed the bassist away, not liking this at all. The vocalist stuttered when he tried to protest against this part of the dare, but this only caused Ni~ya to chuckle yet again. “Has anyone told you how cute you are when you’re afraid, Yomi-chan?”
“Leave me the hell alone, Ni-san!” and with that, Yomi left the room running.
Ruka had resorted to running his hands through Yomi’s hair soothingly, for the younger was shaken due to remembering the events that happened only days ago.
“It was then that I made the plans with you… but then that night… N-Ni~ya…” Yomi’s head shook, refusing to speak the rest of his sentence. This made Ruka tighten his embrace on the younger.
The combination of the soothing hand running through his brown locks, the warmth of the embrace, and the silent tears, made the younger fall asleep in the drummer’s arms. But, unfortunately for the poor man, his dreams were far from sweet.
