aim log with a fellow rp'er. contemplating names.
scribblecloud: hey, izalright, I just spent twenty minutes scouring Atlas Shrugged to see what would be considered formal and informal of addressing someone
scribblecloud: from what I can gather
scribblecloud: calling someone their whole name, example: Sander Cohen, is informal for a woman to say, but seems acceptable by men. Though it seems Mr. Cohen would be the most formal. Two business partners seem to call each other strictly by last name, Say between Cohen and such and such. and then ultimately friends do first name basis.
????: Hmm. o.o
scribblecloud: I did all this scouring because Ishida called cohen "Cohen-san" and I had him correct him to "Cohen" because they were now business partners XD
????: That's interesting that full name is informal by women but fine for men.
????: lmao xD
scribblecloud: it was just from a quick glance, i may be wrong. the protagonist (a female) was scolded for calling her business partner by his whole name, for which she retorted that everyone calls him that
????: Hmm. =|a
scribblecloud: (though they do so in a bit of mocking, so perhaps it's frowned on by all)
????: Weird,
????: xD
scribblecloud: as using a whole name seems to be mocking if said by someone who doesn't know another person very well. obviously it's a little different when it comes to artists as they want people to know their entire name.
????: Hmm yeah, full name would come across as-- yes that.
scribblecloud: I should totally post all of that in cohen's journal for future reference XD
????: Kadaj keeps calling Edgeworth Mr. Prosecutor 'cause I really can't hear him calling him by name at all, it's weird. Plus it kind of sounds more child-like. =|a
????: YOU KNOW I don't think Kadaj calls a single person by name through the entire movie.
scribblecloud: no, he doesn't
scribblecloud: and he's totally immature like that so you're cool XD
scribblecloud: while playing bioshock I had noticed that almost all the characters call each other by last names. since they were all business peeps anyways
????: I mean he calls Rufus "shacho" which in the subs I believe became "Mr. President", so that's probably where that came from. =|a Though I think he used "sir" in the dub, I don't remember.
scribblecloud: and 'Mr. Cohen' only pops up by fitzpatrick who is an apprentice and thus is under Cohen rank wise
????: Hmm.
scribblecloud: I thin he did
scribblecloud: think*
????: Man that's actually really interesting. xD
scribblecloud: and then Atlas said 'Sander Cohen' because he's totes mocking
????: It's like a brief insight into relations between two characters.
scribblecloud: lemme see if I can scrounge up the script
scribblecloud: here we go
scribblecloud: "Ryan's handed the keys to Fort Frolic over to a guy named Sander Cohen. Cohen's an artist, says some. He's a Section Eight, says I. I've seen all kinds of cutthroats, freaks, and hard cases in my life, but Cohen, he's a real lunatic, a dyed-in-the-wool psychopath ..."
