IC:

Character name: Soul “Eater” Evans
Fandom: Soul Eater
Timeline: The end of chapter 62. Meaning, Soul has become a Death Scythe but nothing else beyond that (no flying lessons l-lol).
Age: Though his age hasn’t been given out in the source material, the general consensus is that he is around 14.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

Soul is what is known as a “Weapon”, meaning he has the ability to transform his entire self into a class of weapon, his being that of a red and black scythe, respectively. In the canon of Soul Eater, some individuals are born with (or inherit) the blood and genes of a “Weapon”, giving them this unique ability. Soul was born with his, and like most other Weapons, can execute a partial-transformation, altering a single part of his body into a scythe in order to fight alone - this is almost always his arm.

FULLY TRANSFORMED BLADE FORM
PARTIAL TRANSFORMATION 1
PARTIAL TRANSFORMATION 2

However, his true strength doesn’t come about fighting single-handedly, but when completely transformed and in the hands of his Meister, Maka Albarn. Together, they can perform powerful attacks. Soul can even pick up on some of Maka’s own abilities, such as the ability to see the souls of others, when they perform Soul Resonance, or the synchronization of their souls.

Soul also has what is known as “black blood”, a type of blood used to corrupt souls, which he can use in order to strengthen both himself and his partner immensely, but at the risk of plunging into madness. Soul only uses this as a last resort.

Besides those abilities, Soul can also create a resonance link with practically anyone by way of playing the piano and creating sound waves and rhythms that those people can follow. Through this, Soul can affect the speed and efficiency of individuals he is linked with in battle, even controlling their attacks. He doesn’t use this ability very often, and cannot use it for a prolonged period of time whenever he does, because the longer he plays, the higher the risk of falling into madness becomes.

How would they use their abilities?:

Only when the time calls for it. Soul isn’t the type who goes out looking for a fight, but won’t hesitate in striking if he need be. If you are endangering anyone he considers a friend, be prepared for a fight.

And he’d only use his abilities for good! He is one of the main characters in a shounen series, what did ‘ya expect?!

Appearance:

Soul has a rather normal and lean figure, which isn’t too surprising considering he is still a young boy. He has spiky white hair that is normally swept to one side, red eyes, and extremely sharp, pointed teeth. His overall posture and facial features are rather lazy and give the impression that he is uninterested, making his “whatever” attitude all the more effective.

And here is a character sheet for good measure: CLICK ME.

Background/Personality:

Really, we could wrap this entire section up by saying that Soul is nothing more than a normal teenage boy. He strives to give off an image of someone who is “cool”, and will base a lot of what he says and does on whether or not it would be seen as such. Because of this, he has a rather nonchalant attitude and overall outlook on life, which occasionally makes him come off as rather cold to those around him. Most of his opinions are of indifference, but he's not afraid to be direct when the time calls for it, often being the voice of reason to Maka.

Despite his valiant efforts to be Mr. Cool Guy Supreme, in the end Soul carries a lot of esteem issues, as he will occasionally consider himself “nowhere near as good” in relation to others, be it friend or foe. He never lets any of these thoughts show outwardly, and his lack of confidence leads Soul to be a rather introverted person. He fears that he'll only disappoint the ones closest to him. Even so, he remains extremely loyal to the ones he truly cares about and wants to become stronger for their sake. At his core, Soul is a good person and very much a reliable friend.

But this wouldn't be fun without some TL;DR, now would it? Okay, okay; Background-Personality block spam awayyy!

There isn’t a lot of information detailing Soul’s background prior to where the series begins. From what we do know, he was born into a somewhat wealthy family renowned for their musical abilities, the Evans’. For many years, Soul was unaware of his Weapon blood, instead recognized only for his skills as a young pianist. This was a talent which he often felt hesitant in demonstrating because of his older brother and famous violinist, Wes Evans. Soul felt as though he could never match up to his brother’s “superior skills”, and due to such beliefs, purposefully found ways out of playing the piano whenever possible - most likely distancing himself from those around him in the process. Soul feared that he’d only be compared to his older brother in virtually almost any situation.

Where his parents fit into all of this is still unknown, and the only other familial relations that have been mentioned are that of his grandmother, and it was only brief with no real information. So, it can be assumed that Soul never experienced any domestic problems beyond his own esteem issues. Still, it’s obvious that he’d rather not be associated with his family at all. After realizing he was a Weapon, the first thought that came to his mind was that he had “found an excuse” to escape from his family and all potential judgments; he could start anew, as a Weapon.

AND SO HE BASICALLY DITCHED HIS FAMILY AND DOESN’T LIKE FOR PEOPLE TO EVEN KNOW HIS LAST NAME BECAUSE, UH, HE HAS NEVER SEEN THOSE PEOPLE IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE, HONEST. He opts to be called Soul “Eater” instead of “Evans” because that is edgy or something. But really, you have to wonder if his family ever worries about him (why the manga creator hasn’t expanded on this, I don’t know), and well, it doesn’t seem like Soul cares much at all about them. Nice.

An so, after what we can pretty much call “running away from home”, Soul finds himself at the Death Weapon-Meister Academy, a place where Weapons (such as himself) can become stronger and, with the aid of a Meister, turn into an elite form of Weapon, also known as a Death Scythe. This can only be achieved after collecting 99 corrupted souls and 1 soul of a witch. Having found a new goal to work towards, Soul eventually encounters Maka Albarn, a Meister, who approaches him one day as he is playing the piano. The two quickly decide that they would make a great team, and from then on, work together as Meister and Weapon to achieve their goal.

From there, Soul and Maka begin to hunt down corrupted souls, all of which aren’t shown to the viewer, because it isn’t until they get to their 99th soul that the series truly opens. Soul is in full-blown “cool guy” mode by this time, always laid back and oftentimes the most levelheaded of the group. He isn’t that much of a conversationalist, but will say what is on his mind, though prefers to convey his thoughts in a sarcastic manner. Yeah, totally 100% cool.

What isn’t cool, is when you’ve successfully gathered enough evil souls and you think you’ve just defeated a witch. You eagerly eat her soul thinking, “oh yeah, I’m going to become a Death Scythe!”. . . only to find that you’ve just dined on the soul of a regular, good for nothing cat. Because that is exactly what happens to Soul and Maka, forcing them to go all the way back and begin at ground-zero. Soul and Maka have to begin going on missions once again, as well as take supplementary lessons in the meantime. Even so, Soul remains determined as ever and continues to hold complete faith in Maka, knowing that they'll reach their goal eventually.

Speaking of which, Soul has an unrelenting devotion to Maka, his one and only Meister. He firmly stands beside her in pretty much every situation, and would gladly die for her without even considering the consequences. This proves just how loyal he can be, despite how aloof he may appear initially. When he and Maka first encounter Professor Franken Stein, Soul is more than ready to throw his body over Maka’s own, believing that Stein was going to attack her when she was down. Another example, and the most prominent one at that, is when they first encounter Crona, a Meister who shares a body with their Weapon, and child of witch Medusa. Just as Crona is to strike Maka with their blade, Soul puts himself in front of her, taking the hit and severely wounding himself with a deep gash to the chest.

In taking the blow of Crona’s blade in order to protect Maka, black blood enters his blood stream and awakens a type of “madness” within him. As a result, a little demon occupies Soul’s inner subconscious, and will constantly try and persuade him into using the black blood to strengthen his powers, but at risk of losing his sanity. Soul tries his best to forgo such an option whenever possible, knowing how dangerous it could be not only to himself, but to his Meister as well.

Only in in dire situations, and with the consent of Maka, has Soul used the ability of the black blood, but only as a last resort. In one instance, he let the black blood take over Maka when she decided to use it in order fight Crona a second time, but Soul was determined to pull her out of the darkness her back by the end of it. He accomplishes this with moderate struggle, displaying how much control he has over the black blood. Despite his impressive control thus far, his battle with the Little Demon continues on. Truly, there is clearly a darker side to Soul then he lets on, and this is only heightened when Asura, the first Kishin (true corrupted soul) ever in existence, is released from the chains that were put on him long ago.

With Asura awakened, a lot of evil souls and witches come out from their hiding places, bringing about new challenges for Soul and the others. Arachne, sister of the evil witch Medusa, is one of these witches to give them the most trouble. She has several underlings, one of them being Mosquito, whom Soul and the others go up against, and allows Soul to uncover a new ability. By playing the piano within his soul, he can create a Resonance Link with just about anyone, allowing him to take control of not only of Maka, but his other teammates as well. The only problem is that this ability really takes a toll on his sanity and this he is only allowed to use it for a short period of time. Fortunately, Mosquito allows them to escape after seeing their skills.

Another one of Arachne’s lackeys is a Weapon named Giriko, whom Soul quickly starts to feel inferior against - similar to how he felt towards his older brother, Wes. Unlike Soul, Giriko can fight efficiently on his own, whilst Soul feels useless unless being wielded by Maka. He is once again faced with emotions of not “being good enough” when in comparison to someone else.

Soul’s feelings of inadequacy seem to carry on over until the fight with Arachne herself. When he and Maka reach the witch’s main lair, they are struck with a wave of spider webs, immobilizing them into what are, essentially, wooden puppets. It is during this time that the Little Demon makes a rather bold appearance, chastising Soul, informing him that he has no clear path of his own, and that he relies on eliminating just about every option put before him in order to move forward. Soul, unable to retort to the Little Demon, is left on the floor until a vision of Arachne appears before him, helping him stand by pulling on his “strings”. He says that he wants to stand, to be stronger, and believes he is saved by Arachne-until Maka gives him a good hit to the head! Snapping to his senses, Soul admits that he has been a coward in the past, relying too much on his indifference, and vows that he will become stronger for his sake, as well as Maka’s own, as she has always been there to help him through his darkest of moments. This resolution in mind, Soul and Maka take Arachne head-on. By using his talent of spreading a Resonance Link through the piano, Soul is able to protect everyone from the madness that Arachne is trying to spread and, with a little help from the black blood, gives Maka an armor dress, which gives them the upperhand. After a few swift attacks, she and Soul are able to kill Arachne for good.

By defeating Arachne, Maka and Soul finally obtain a true witches soul. Not only that, but her defeat brings on a small time of peace in Death City, or at least enough tranquility for Soul and Maka to go on regular missions once again, tracking down corrupted souls like they had been doing previously. Before they even know it, they collect 99 souls, and with Arachne’s soul added into the mix, they . . . finally achieve their goal.

As he is congratulated by Lord Death and several of his peers, Soul eats Arachne’s soul and finally, finally becomes a Death Scythe.

Have you read up on how the game works?:
Yes, I have. The communication device that the characters use is called the FlamingFerret. A character can gain money by taking up a job, attending classes, or simply mooching off another character.

1st person sample:

[voice]

[The sound of faint grumbling can be heard over the device, followed by the distinct sound of buttons be pressed. The voice then mutters something louder this time, and you may (or may not) recognize this voice--]

Wonder if this thing can play music.

[You then hear someone else talking in the background, possibly giving instructions on how to work the device, but you can barely make out what they are saying. After a few moments, the screen turns on with a click, revealing the holder. Seems like the advice worked.]

I'm supposed to be able to communicate through this thing? [he arches an eyebrow, but only briefly before he lets out an unimpressed sigh.] Seems no different than any other piece of junk. Wouldn't be surprised if no one even uses 'em. [he goes quiet then, looking about his surroundings, then back to the guide.]

If anyone is listening or whatever, would you mind telling me the fastest way out of this place? Don't care about the method, just tell me if you know.

3rd person sample:

He had finally become a Death Scythe, huh? It only took, well, pretty much everything he had, but Soul managed to accomplish what had once seemed impossibly far away from his grasp. And yet, he didn't feel much different, nor did he look much different. Everything felt the same as before. . .

. . . well, except for the fact that the world decided to end the second after he became a Death Scythe.

"Go figure," he mutters under his breath, almost inaudibly. The world must have been playing a cruel trick on him. After everything he had been through -- the exhausting battles, all of his inner struggles, Maka -- it was all for nothing? In the end, he couldn't protect anyone, was that what the universe was trying to tell him?

Don't give me that bullshit, Soul curses to himself as he begins to furiously search his new surroundings, making his way down the distant streets and alleyways. There was no way he had became a Death Scythe only to lose everything he had ever known in the process. If anything, he had to believe that Maka was still alive somewhere, and he would find her. He had failed too many times in the past, and he wasn't about to let her down this time, not when they had just achieved this together -- not now. He had pulled her from the darkness before, and he'd be sure to reach her again. He wasn't going to fail this time.

As a Death Scythe, he would prove himself once and for all.

Questions?: THIS ISN’T REALLY A QUESTION, BUT. If you want me to expand on the background/personality section by including more information on characters such as villains, please let me know. I didn’t want the section to become too insanely large and found that adding information on the antagonists didn’t really relate back to what makes up Soul’s personality, so yeah. If that was bad of me, just spank me or something, because I tried hard to only include events that affected him directly without it being too lengthy. ;;

Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Why, yes. Yes I did.
