One day it's here and then it's gone.

Ack, I have to write this all out before I read anyone else's episode reactions, to get out all my first impressions first and then be swayed by others' thoughts later.

The Mentalist. Potential massively unpopular opinions ahoy. )

Dude you left this comment ages ago, and I've always meant to come back and respond to it, but I kept forgetting and then when I did come LJ had changed and I could only barely figure it out haha.

The thing about me and shipping Jane/Lisbon (I REFUSE TO CALL IT JISBON LOL) is that I'm not AVERSE to the idea, not really...I just...don't think it's necessary to the story or to the characters. If it happens, I'm fine with that, but I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for it to happen, you know? I just think their relationship has a lot more layers than just a traditional romantic ship, and I was interested in ALL of those layers, not just the romantic layers. It's interesting that the Jane/Lisbon shipping element is what prompted you to stop watching (at least in part, right?), because one of my best friends in RL gave it up for that same reason. I did notice the same thing, but I was able to set it aside in favor of the cases, and the RJ arc and all that and I figured what would happen would happen.

As far as I can tell, I'm pretty much the only person on the internet that didn't like this episode. I can't find anyone else who has the same opinions as me. I wonder if that's partly because the portion of Mentalist fans online are likely to be of the typical online fan persuasion, and a large part of that typical online fan scene is shipping, and so all I'm seeing online is shippers who are happy they got their ship. I don't know. It does make me feel like I need to re-watch the episode, to see if I'm just missing something, or whatever. I don't even know.

The airplane speech WAS good. I liked their later interaction better (the one in the holding cell), but the airplane speech was definitely good. It was sweet. But what I liked best, as I said in this entry, was the acting that Simon and Robin did. And really, the thing that sort of soured the speech overall was the extreme cheese at the end as Jane is getting arrested and practically tasered as he yells over and over that he loves Lisbon. *eyeroll* Maybe I'm just stone-hearted, but give me a break, lol.

Anyway, I'm belaboring the point, really. I'll shush now. La la la.
