Okay so I got offered a job back in New Hampshire and I have to take it even though I kind of don't want to, not because I don't want the job, but because I don't want to be back in New Hampshire. I'm frustrated because I can't find a place to live. I start in a week and I still don't even have a plane ticket back there, let alone a place to sleep

Or- actually, I've just remembered. There are a set of YA books set in Discworld, which run sort of parallel to the main story. There are all really good to, and I think they were the first ones I read. "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents" is a stand alone, a re-telling of the Pied Piper of Hamelin fairytale. Then there are four about Tiffany Aching, a smart logical young girl training to be a witch. The first one is "The Wee Free Men" (in which Tiffany meets the Discworld version of leprechauns), then "The Hat Full of Sky", "Wintersmith" and "I Shall Wear Midnight". Those are also a good set to read if you want more Pratchett but don't want to wade through all of the main Discworld books.
