Man, I really need to get caught up on the Mentalist. Especially since I just remembered I signed up for a Reverse BB a while ago, and I am probably going to run into all kinds of spoilers keeping up with it... And Lewis! I'm not caught up in that either, but the seasons are so short I am happy to know there will be more ( ... )

Lewis just announced it's air date as May 16th! I really hope that it gets put up online because the girl who normally uploaded them for past seasons quit doing file uploading after all the MU mess and such. Cross my fingers that I'll find it. Otherwise I'll have to find some way to trick the internet into thinking I'm from the UK so that I can watch it on the ITV website. I know there's a way to do that, but I haven't figured out what works best for my computer yet ( ... )

I'll have to find some way to trick the internet into thinking I'm from the UK... hee hee hee.

I think the book you are talking about is Elegance of a Hedgehog. I've heard lots of people have liked it. I started it a while ago and read a chapter or two and put it down again. I thought it had some good qualities but I could already tell it was going to be a rather slow book... and so, so French. Almost painfully French.

I am glad we agree about Jane Austen! Part of the reason I like watching the mini-series first is because she rarely gives any kind of physical description of her characters (lol, like me) beyond "she was pretty, he was handsome" so I have a hard time picturing them. If I watch a mini-series first I can cast the actor in the roll in my head and see it better.

Yes! Elegance of a Hedgehog! That was it. She was telling me how it was such an amazing book but that the translator must have gone crazy with a thesaurus because there were so many words in it that she had to look up. She told me that because she was on an e-reader, all she had to do was click on the word and it would be defined and that she wouldn't want to have read it as a regular book because then she wouldn't have been able to do that. The whole time she was explaining this, I was thinking, ugh why would I want to read a book where I need a dictionary nearby for every other word.

And yes, I agree with that as one of the reasons why I prefer to watch Austen adaptations before reading. :)

Ha ha, right? I don't remember having to look up words so much as people's names. The book kept referencing all of these European philosophers and writers that I had never heard of. Well, I had heard of some of them, but I'm not that familiar with their work. Like, if you tell me that Kant's theories of aesthetics are in direct opposition to Hegel's theory of reality, that really doesn't mean anything to me...
