Character name: Logan
Fandom: Fable
Timeline: In canon he's from Fable III, After the "Revolution" and some time before his trial. However, I will be taking him from after his stay in
discedo .
Age: Not specified in canon, but given the comparison in age to his younger sibling it's probably late 20s. Because I like having an actual age to go by, 29.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
• Combat abilities: It is implied (since we actually never see him fight) that he is a skilled swordsman and competent in battle as he went on numerous expeditions in the past and survived both of his encounters with the Crawler.
• Resolute: Logan is very tenacious, persistent ... stubborn even, with an incredible sense of duty. He never gets sidetracked, never loses focus of his goals, and he will do just about anything to accomplish them.
• Good under pressure: Relatively speaking of course, but nevertheless. He can make difficult decisions without letting personal values cloud his judgement and keep level-headed in times of crisis. He manages to hide his true emotions, panic or desperation quite well with a stony exterior.
• Leadership experience: Logan has spent roughly a decade as ruler of Albion and head of the Albion army. Not only that, but he tried his damnedest to keep a country running in a epoch of grave danger and prepare it for all-out war with a physical manifestation of the Black Death.... when said country wasn't even aware of it. He managed to build his own army up of ruthless and loyal elite guards in less than 4 years. He may not be the world's best leader, but he knows how to be a practical, effective leader and understands the necessary sacrifices on must make.
How would they use their abilities?:Combat abilities would most likely be used for self-defense. And since he's kind of a stick in the mud, the latter would be used in working.

in-game (cinematic) Let's be frank, Logan isn't the most attractive man around. He is tall--the average soldier standing just below his shoulders--and thin with the tired, aged look of a man in his early forties rather than his late twenties. He has pallid, greyish skin and dark rings beneath deep-set dark, murky brown eyes. He has fine dark brown, almost black that reaches about chin length (it has grown to slightly past his shoulders since his arrival in Discedo) which typically worn slicked back, further emphasizing his widows peak and prominent brow. To further the stereotypically evil look because subtlety and Fable go together as well as bacon and vodka, he's got high sharp cheekbones, a beak nose, slight sideburns, and the Goatee of Evil. His most visibly striking features are the two scars decorating his lower face, running like a crevasse from just below his lower lip to near the tip of his nose. Logan is typically clean cut and well-dressed, though not necessarily as much upon his arrival. He is seen in canon wearing the same purple and gold king's suit the entire time, even when he's no longer king.
Background:
Setting information:
Right so first, Fable games are primarily set in the land of Albion, is a parallel to Great Britain, but if magic and folklore were real. There are extraordinary individuals disciplined in Strength, Skill, and/or Will. Strength is related to melee combat, Skill to ranged combat (such as archers and marksmen) and Will the use of different types of magic. Very rarely, a Hero can master all three disciplines, and they come from the bloodline of the first Archon of the Old Kingdom, William Black. These individuals can endure trials most normal humans cannot as well as fall from incredible heights without breaking any bones. Despite being called Heroes, they can actually choose the path of good or evil.
So the first Archon unified Albion into a great kingdom, which was possible with his amazing powers of Will. The world just seemed to reshape itself in accordance to his wishes. There were amazing machines that ran on Will alone and cities rose in mere weeks. There was a thousand of years of peace and life was grand until the Archon, faced with decay, vanished from the land, and the Kingdom became corrupt. The fall of the Kingdom came after the latest Archon demanded the destruction of the Spire--a giant tower used to focus all the Will power in the world, to grant the user a single wish. After the Spire's completion, a bright light filled the sky and in the morning, the Old Kingdom lay in total ruins, and it's inhabitants destroyed save for those who lived beyond the walls. The corruption of the Old Kingdom was destroyed and the land could start anew. There is a period called the "Darkest Times," which parallels Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, which ended to an extent with the creation of the Hero's Guild. Many years later, Fable takes place in a sort of Medieval/King Arthur-ish era. Fable II takes place 500 years later and is this world's version of the Enlightenment. The Heroes Guild has been destroyed and Heroes are a rarity. The protagonist, the Hero of Bowerstone, stops Lucien Fairfax from rebuilding the Tattered Spire with a ragtag group of unsung Heroes. Afterwards, she is able to unite Albion and become the Hero Queen. Her rule was kind and benevolent, fair and just. She knows, as Theresa had shown her the future, that one of her children has inherited her Heroic traits and will save Albion from some threat. She makes all sorts of preparations for this child before her death. And YEAH, Fable III takes place 50 years after Fable II, during the Age of Industry.
Early Life:
Not much is known about Logan's early life. Logan is the eldest living son of the aging Hero Queen of Albion who presumably (re)married some time after the events of Fable II. Despite being the child of a Hero and therefore from the same ancient Heroic bloodline of the first Archon, he never exhibited any signs of being a Hero. His father died not long after the birth of his younger sister. With the death of his mother presumably some time before he turned 20, Logan was charged with the responsibilities of both ruling Albion and legal guardianship over his little sister.
Again, not much is known about Logan's early reign. It is heavily implied that he wasn't always a tyrant, the change to one was sudden and drastic. His mother's friend and loyal soldier, Sir Walter Beck, was his head advisor. He travelled often, exploring distant and foreign lands. All is seemingly good and well, I suppose.
Aurora:
Four years prior to the beginning of Fable III, Logan and a group of soldiers went on an expedition to the land of Aurora. It was there in the desert that he first encountered the Crawler--an Eldritch Terror and basically, a physical manifestation of/reference to the Black Death. He could do nothing as every single one of his men were slaughtered mercilessly. He was saved for last, a victim to all sorts of physical and psychological torture in the process. His emotions were twisted and toyed with as the Crawler tried to break his fragile human psyche. He was verbally berated, shown horrific hallucinations until he was driven to insanity. Yet he resisted, fought until he fell. He was nearly killed, but the Aurorans rescued him. Saved his life. He saw the plight of the Auroran people, having lived through the terror what they had to endure since the Crawler's initial attack four years prior to his own arrival, he promised to send help, a proper army to help defend them. However, the night of his return to Albion, he received a from the blind Seer of the Spire, Theresa. She informed him that the Darkness that attacked him in the desert, the creature that slaughtered his men and nearly killed the King himself was planning an Attack on Albion. She showed him the future of his land. All the death, all the destruction. It couldn't be stopped or reasoned with. And he had five years to prepare for all out war against such an abomination.
Tyranny:
He spoke to no one of what he encountered in the desert. He never spoke of his near-death experience against the Crawler. He never explained the origins of the scars on his face and hid the rest from the public. He spoke nothing of the suffering Aurorans, speaking of their land only as a desert wasteland, devoid of life. He said not a word of the darkness looming ahead. Nothing good would have come of telling them the truth. He would have either been deemed a madman or create a massive panic. Instead, he kept the burden entirely to himself. A practical thinker, he knew the only way he'd ever have any hope of saving his kingdom, saving 6.5 million people, would be to raise one hell of an army. And to raise one hell of any army, one would need to make a fortune. And Logan believed that the only way to raise that money was through the cruelty of a tyrant. Temporary happiness and a good reputation meant nothing if they were all going to die.
And so it was after Theresa's visit that he made relatively sudden, drastic changes in both himself and his ruling style. He stopped traveling and began to isolate himself from all those around him. He left raising his sister to Walter and John Cleese his former butler, Jasper. He started to rule with an iron fist. All those who spoke out against him were sent to Ravenscar Keep, a secret island prison established by his mother.
One such a man was the former leader of Logan's armies, General Solomon Turner. After attempted to overthrow the tyrant king after seeing how he treated his subjects. He broke the "unwritten rule" and had to be stopped. Logan, of course, was able to stop the coup and sent Turner and those responsible to spend the rest of their lives rotting away in the Keep. It was then that he began to focus primarily on his fabulously dressed Elite Guards, sending the regular army on dead-end missions and ways to keep them busy. The Old Guard was no longer trustworthy. As far as he was concerned, they were all plotting against him.
Ernest Faraday, the head of Faraday Industries and the man responsible for many of the technological advances in Albion, was also unfortunate enough to catch the king's attention. His basis of operations was Clockwork Island, an tourist attraction/factory where tourists could take a "glimpse into the future" and he built his creations. Logan was impressed with what the man had created and better yet, had to offer. He tried to force the man to build a clockwork robot army "to defend Albion." Unaware of Logan's true intentions and convinced the King was going mad with power, Faraday refused. Logan promptly declared the man a threat to society and sent him to Ravenscar keep, wiping his name from the records. It's pretty much a setup for a big Iron Man reference, but regardless.
The former pirate Reaver proceeded to take over Faraday Industries. Logan later gave him control over Bowerstone Industrial due to his profiteering ways, desperate to make the money for this army. Almost all of his actions were towards the army; he never spent any of the money lavishly or wastefully.
Fable III:
Rumors are spreading rampantly and unrest is growing throughout Albion. Logan, though keeping himself locked up in the aptly named war room, is well aware. He had successfully alienated himself from everyone he knew. There almost was no one he could trust. They were all plotting against him. The more he felt he was losing control, the harsher he struck back. So one morning, Logan has some worker executed for sticking up for one of the child workers at the factory. It only resulted in further unrest around the castle and a protest from the workers of Bowerstone Industrial. Riiiight on the castle grounds.
Walter, his old advisor, tried to go talk some sense into him, but Logan wouldn't have any of that shit. He proclaimed be was "acting in the best interest of the people," and ordered his guards to start shooting the protestors. His sister, who was spying through the keyhole with her childhood sweetheart Elliot, barged in. She claimed what he was doing was wrong; how he couldn't go through with it.
He had been betrayed by his own blood, the only person he had left. But it was time to face facts, she was no longer a child. So in a mix of punishment and a life lesson, he gave her an ultimatum. If she thought she could do a better job as a ruler, then she was to be given the choice. He made her choose who was to be executed, the head of the protest or her friend Elliot, whom he claimed was a spy. If she didn't choose within a certain time, he would have them all executed. Not only was it cruel and petty, an attempt to hurt her as she had him, but an attempt to show her the difficult choices a ruler must make. He was giving her the choice over life and death; she either had to save the one she loved or sacrifice him for the group of strangers she would never see again. Whatever her choice, she told Logan she would never forgive him and he sent her to her room. She ran away with Walter and Jasper and began to leave a revolution against him.
Theresa, the Blind Seer who warned Logan of the Crawler's attack, became his sister's guide. After she retrieved the music box--important to the plot of Fable II and required to get her first follower--Theresa showed the Hero a vision of her brother talking to himself. It was purposefully taken out of context, the Seer makes him out to be an irredeemable, power-crazed monster. One that must be stopped immediately. In reality, he was pretty much stating fact and showed his desperation to save everyone from the Crawler.
Major Swift, a respected member of the Albion Army and newfound ally to the Rebels, was found in the castle trying to recruit men for the cause. Logan had him tortured to try to get him to talk, but talk he would not. So, Logan had him executed publicly. Swift's death was to serve as a warning and a message--all traitors would be hunted down, no one was going to stand in his way.
SOME TIME PASSED and then there was a Revolution. Hoorah. Logan kept himself holed up in the war room as the battle went on outside. His sister and Walter kicked down the doors, quite possibly expecting a fight. He drew his sword, but promptly sheathed it at the sight of his sister. He surrendered with surprising grace and attempted to tell her the truth for his actions right then and there. Alas, Walter wouldn't have any of that shit and dragged him down the the dungeon to await trial.
Personality:
"My dear King Logan, you're a crusty slug, and a black-hearted tyrant to boot! You might scare the lily-livered peons and the syncophants you surround yourself with, but you do not scare me! Yours sincerely, ... an ... anonymous citizen."
Logan was once King of Albion. As such, he was responsible for his kingdom and the safety of its people. And this severe sense of duty and strong devotion to his kingdom is what most defines the former ruler. He puts Albion's well-being above all else. He is willing to do anything or sacrifice anything if necessary to defend his land. If he had to end a few lives to save millions, he would. As he states himself, "If a few had to suffer, it was to build an army. If a few had to die, it was to save a country." If it cost him his friends and family, his own reputation and welfare, then so be it. He is not morally unsound, but rather felt forced to make these drastic sacrifices to try to ensure his kingdom had a future. Every single life his sole responsibility.
Of course, this has led him to a near constant state of stressed the hell out. Though he never expresses these feelings directly, it's fairly obvious something is wrong. A burden he carries alone. Most obvious are the dark rings beneath his eyes and frequent bouts of ill-temper that serve as a testament to his exhaustion. He also has a tendency to talk to himself when under stress, as seen in the most misleading cutscene in the entire game. He's very unhappy and seems to even be thankful when his sister takes the throne (though this occurs after the trial and his point in canon). Although he knows that all will turn out well thanks to his stay in Discedo, he still has great difficulty trying to relax. It is something he'd like to see through to the end ... or at the very least, face his trial. He has trouble leaving business unfinished.
Yet he masks his everything with self-control and a stony facade. So to most, Logan tends to come across as a real hard ass--stern, stubborn, humorless, and cold. Solemn and serious as a heart attack, smiling seems to be a foreign concept to him (unfortunately verified by an actual smile). He is levelheaded and composed, even in the most severe crisis. He still has a lingering air of arrogance and pomposity about him. He usually carries himself with pride, back straight, shoulders squared, and chin up. He's not afraid to look someone else in the eye. Seeming to look down on them because of his position of royalty. Though he does not take great care of his health, he takes some pride in his appearance, almost always well dressed and clean cut. Despite his composure, he has quite the short, nasty temper. One he is much more likely to lose under a state of chronic stress (or when his pride is hurt). He can be quite the formidable enemy, able to keep control even when enraged. Instead of going head first into a fistfight, he seems to use methods that are far more petty and harsh.
With that said, Logan is very detached and distant from those around him. He was never the most social creature, but again, he isolated and alienated himself from everyone during the last four years of his reign. He seems very callous, harsh, and devoid of compassion. He shows little, if any, signs of sympathy or empathy. He has a worker at the very start of the game executed simply for sticking up for a child worker. He orders his guards to start shooting at the protestors without even batting an eyelash. He was demanding of his subjects and expected them to make as many sacrifices as he did. It was to save them, after all. As King, he would not be questioned. His actions were never wrong. Though not nearly as paranoid now, he is still very wary, mistrusting, and even slightly suspicious of most people. Due to his mistrust combined with his own secretive nature, he has the worst communication skills ever. He doesn't trust most people with information about himself or his obligations. There are numerous points where things would have ended much better if he had simply spoken the truth. But of course, he felt he could not trust a soul. They could not understand without experiencing it themselves. And he only gives respect to those who he feel deserve it. It must be earned and can easily be lost. Both can be seen with his treatment towards his sister at and after his surrender as well as his deteriorated relationship with Sir Walter Beck.
The only exception to his ... social detachment is his little sister. Logan genuinely cares for her and is very much the overprotective big brother. He never seemed to take to the parental figure well. She is his only family, and while distant, he tried his best to shelter her and protect her while he still could. He was deeply hurt by her 'betrayal', and lashed out in anger. But he realized that she was no longer the child he could keep from the truth and sought to show her the difficult decisions one must make as a ruler, both to possibly get her to understand the reasons for his actions but also, as he says himself, to "prepare her." And when she and Walter cornered him in the castle, Logan surrendered at the sight of his sister. He would not, could not fight her. He didn't want to. She has finally met the high hopes he had for her, became the extraordinary woman he knew she could be. He knows she deserves to know the truth. She has the potential be the true leader Albion needs. And with the knowledge that she will succeed, he couldn't be any prouder. ... Even if she does decide to kill him.
Logan may be intelligent, a practical thinker, but emotionally he's pretty stupid. Forever the stoic, he would generally prefer to seem emotionless than vulnerable. So he's bottled up his feelings, keeping them all to himself for over the past four years. He feels the best way to cope with traumatic events is to act as if they never happened. Never mention them to anyone. He has been bereft of any close attachment for so long that he no longer knows how to deal with it. As a tyrant, he pushed away those he cared for, so when they inevitably turned their backs on him it would hurt less. When he hurt them, it would not be as painful. Yes, he does indeed care, but he's really bad at showing it. He cares for the citizens of Albion, though the only hint of that is the utter desperation in which he tried to save them. It's slightly better with his sister, though not much. The closest she gets to properly articulated feelings is "You've finally become the woman I've always wanted you to be," implying he's always had high hopes for her. He isn't exactly capable of soft-hearted love or showing much affection, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel it.
Why do you want to continue their history here:
Logan has had enough personal development and potential for character growth over the past 4.5 months at
discedo that I feel would be a shame to lose. He's had to live through both what he put his subjects through and the destruction and ruins he was trying to prevent as a tyrant. He's had to face the reality of his own death. An event dealing with a two week coma and an AU!Discedo ended with his own death. It was the only way to wake up, though he was killed against his will. Also, He's convinced that if/when he does return to Albion, he's going to be sentenced to death. And he's learned to accept that. Having learned from Theresa that his sister will be able to defend Albion against the Darkness, he's been able to chill the fuck out. Relatively speaking, anyway. While he would like to return home and see things through to the end, he's no longer on the verge of giving himself a heart attack over it. He's made some attempts to be less of a total prick and more diplomatic in his interactions with others. "Made some attempts" being the key phrase, but at least he tried? Being from the equivalent of the Industrial Revolution, Discedo was Logan's first encounter with modern technology and the widespread use of electricity. Discedo is also the first time he's ever had to cook and learn other basic survival skills for himself. Like sticking cans in microwave ovens does not work. He's always had people for those sorts of things. He's going to recognize quite a few of the people on the ship, and the concept of other worlds certainly isn't lost on him.
Also he learned about kismesissitude and filling pails. True cultural enlightenment.
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep! The FlamingFerret is a plug-in on the guide that allows refugees to communicate with one another. Said refugees can also earn money by doing missions offered in the Lightning Post, freelance work, or by other unscrupulous means.

Have a post instead? 3rd person sample:
Logan had visited to the dungeons of Bowerstone many times before. He brought traitors here before he sent them off to the Keep. He locked up ant had Major Swift tortured there before the public execution. But admittedly, this was the first time he ever found himself locked behind those iron bars. Oh how the mighty had fallen. There was a guard standing outside the cell in order to make sure he couldn't escape justice. He did know these dungeons like the back of his hand, after all. But Logan had no plans to escape. It was imperative that his sister learn the truth. For the sake of Albion. He wanted to tell her when he surrendered, in private, but that wasn't really an option.
So waiting was all he could do until his trial. He lost track of how long it'd been since the old fool threw him in there. Minutes? Hours? Days? It felt like an eternity. But the fallen King had grown accustomed to waiting. He spent the last four years waiting, preparing. It wasn't as if he could pass the time with sleep. Again, nothing new. Sleep began evading his grasp since his return from Aurora. His mind was far too busy anyway.
He had the power over life and death for so long, but now it was his turn to be judged. His sister would never forgive him for what he'd done to her or to his people. She had told him that much. Execution was a very likely outcome. He didn't doubt it for a second. Expected it. But maybe, just maybe, if he explained himself--...even if she didn't forgive him, maybe she'd understand why he had to do what he did. Realize the sacrifices he had to make in order to even try to defend their land from that plague. He had numerous loyal soldiers. Soldiers willing to follow him to the death. He had the beginnings of an army. He'd been preparing for years now. Perhaps she'd give him to help. To see it through to the end.
He sighed and leaned against the cold stone wall, earning a glare from the guard nearby. He assumed soon they would be preparing for his sister's coronation. His former subjects would arrive in front of the castle, waiting with excitement as their new ruler would emerge from the those doors. And despite the circumstances, Logan couldn't help but feel a surge of pride for his little sister, the new Queen of Albion.
