"SAM!"
Sam tried to suppress a groan as he turned off the tv and got up off of the couch. He walked into the bedroom, only to see his slightly pregnant wife still lying on the bed in his t-shirt, in the exact position he had left her in an hour ago.
"Yes, Rachel?" he asked, leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed.
"I can't sleep." she replied, almost with a tone that said, "You should have known that already." Her hands rested on her bulging belly. He was missing the big game for this?
"Rachel, it's only 8. Why on earth are you trying to sleep this early in the first place? You can't honestly be that tired already."
"...but I am tired. Now come on." she patted the empty space on the bed that was next to her.
"But Rachel, the game-"
"Sam, you know I can't sleep without you. Especially now." she argued, giving him her best puppy dog eyes. Sam never could resist those big, brown eyes of hers, especially when she looked as adorable as she did right now.
Sam silently surrendered and walked over to the bed. He got onto the bed and lay down next to Rachel, who scooted closer to him. She snuggled into his side and lay her head on his chest, and he pulled the sheets over them.
They laid in silence for a few moments, and Sam almost went to check if Rachel was still awake, but he knew the answer when she let out a tiny gasp.
She instantly grabbed Sam's hand before placing it on her stomach, and lay her hand on top of his.
He waited for a moment before asking, "Rachel, hon, what are you doing?" But immediately after he finished talking, she shushed him, and moved his hand around, as if she was looking for him to find something on her stomach.
And then he felt it. The tiniest little kick, directly underneath his hand. And then it happened a second time. And a third. Sam gasped. After another kick, his open mouth turned into a smile. He tilted his head and leaned towards Rachel, before giving her a kiss.
He pulled away after a few moments, and she was still smiling up at him. "See? Even they want you to stay here. Now you can't leave."
"Oh, come on. You didn't really think I wasn't going to come in here anyways. I always do, and you know that."
"Yeah, but now you have an even better reason to stay."
"As if I need one. I wouldn't leave your side if I was paid to."
"Sam, you're just saying that."
"Okay. Whatever you say. Good night, Rachel."
There was a moment of silence before Rachel spoke again. "I love you, Sam."
Sam closed his eyes and leaned his body towards Rachel, who lay her head back on his chest.
"I love you too."
They both fell asleep with their hands still on her bulging belly.
