One in the morning came up quick as Faith crossed the state line into Colorado. It hadn't even been an active choice she made, but she had wanted to get out of the house for a bit. Everything had been building up toward her actually having what one could consider a family of sorts, and she wasn't sure what to do with that. She'd gotten into her car and just started the drive to clear her head. Windows open, radio off and just the sound of the draft pulling across the door frame and she thought at some point she'd just turn around and head back. When she stopped for gas she had a moment to turn back, but instead she just got back in her car and kept on going the direction she had started out on.
Four hours later she was crossing another state line and it wasn't looking like she had plans on turning back. At this point she actually knew where she was headed and figured there was no point in trying to convince herself that she'd stop and turn around if she got too far.
Faith drove through all the state lines she needed to and after a day of driving she was glad she'd turned her phone off. Parking the car in the alley she slammed the door shut and stretched, feeling the thickness of the air already start to cling to her body. Pulling her arm across her chest, she tried to work the knot out of her shoulder as she walked up to the front doors of the hotel. It was still a bit odd to go back there, to think that the last time she'd walked up those steps things had been a hell of a lot different.
The mission had been hers, pulled in for special services in a way, and there wasn't anything but saving the guy she trusted in it for her. Now a few years tanked by her and she was off on her own, doing what she could when it was asked of her, but mostly just finding the demons and doing what she did best.
Which apparently still included running when things got too heavy.
He came down from the stairs and ran his hand over his features when he saw her. All she could do was shrug in response, "I got bored. Went for a drive."
"I heard the car pull up in the alley... thought it was someone else."
Faith shook her head, "Just me this time. Sorry to disappoint."
"It's not a disappointment Faith, but you were in South Dakota last I heard."
"So now you hear different, and I'm here in LA. I mean if you don't have the room..." Faith glanced around with a smirk on her face.
"I have room... what happened?"
"Usual." Faith cracked her knuckles a bit, deflecting the answer away from her as Angel just looked at her expecting her to continue. "Hate to break it to you, but I just drove for a day, and I'm not gonna spill my guts to you right from the start here. I mean we're tight - really - just not that tight."
Angel nodded at her, "Anyone know you're here?"
Faith shook her head, "Doesn't matter. They got bigger problems I figure than wondering where I took off to." Exhaling she shrugged, "So not that I don't love this whole catch up thing, but did you catch how I drove for a day? I'm beat."
Smirking Angel gestured toward the stairs, "All the rooms are empty Faith, doors unlocked. If you need a key they're behind the desk in the lobby. Just -- we're going to talk about this."
Faith exhaled, "I figured as much. You're all bossy looking when you don't get answers. We'll talk. Tomorrow." Heading toward the staircase she turned back to him, walking backwards as she continued, "Right now? I'm gonna catch some mattress."
Angel nodded, and watched her head up the staircase and take one of the rooms down near the landing of the second floor. There was a lot she wasn't telling him, and he was pretty sure it had to do with the rumors he'd heard milling through the city these days, which didn't ease his mind at all.
