First Day (rp thread for work_with_it)

It was early - sooner than she needed to be at work, but it was her first day on the job. True, she was still working at the same place, but it was different. She wasn't an intern any more - a mere gofer. She was an aide to the Mayor with an actual salary and everything. Dalia wanted to start her day off right ( Read more... )

Around four in the afternoon, Dalia headed over to the 10th precinct. She was supposed to be off at 5, but Mayor Stephens had been pretty understanding that morning when she'd explained her tardiness. He'd also been okay with letting her go early to file the charges before the close of business.

Dalia went inside the building and approached the receptionist. "Is Officer Gordon still on duty?" she asked.

The receptionist nodded. "You can find him over there--" she motioned to a block of desks where various cops - both plainclothes and uniforms - were working.

Dalia thanked her and made her way over, scanning the desks to find Gordon.

"Remind me why I'm doing your paperwork again."

"You're the rookie," Blakely said, laughing at the look his partner gave him.

James took some comfort in the fact that most of the paperwork was done. He didn't have too much of it to finish up before he could start thinking about going home. Provided nothing else came up-- which it always did.

"Officer Gordon?" Dalia approached the desks of Gordon and his partner.

"Miss Dent," James said as he rose, offering his hand again and a smile. "How are you? Make it through the rest of the day without assaulting someone else?"

"The way you say it makes it sound like that mugger was the victim," Dalia said, shaking his hand.

James chuckled. "Next time, settle for tackling." He motioned to the chair near the desk, "Have a seat, Miss Dent. We'll fill out the paperwork."

Dalia took a seat where he'd indicated she should do so. "Nothing like a good round of paperwork."

"Makes the whole day worthwhile," James replied, smirking a bit.

Dalia smiled back and waited for him to begin, briefly glancing around the place. Wait till her dad heard about this. She'd tell him, not her mom. Nadine would worry too much. Harvey would initially be pissed off - at Gotham or her, she wasn't sure. Probably a bit of both. But when she told him how she took the guy down, he'd smile, despite himself. Where did he think she got it from, anyway?

"Okay," James said, clicking his pen and taking out a notepad, "tell me everything that happened, Miss Dent. Please be as specific as you can."

Dalia sighed. "I was walking to work from the subway station around the corner from City Hall. I'd rounded the corner and was nearing the building when I felt someone run into me. He started grabbing for my purse. I was surprised, so he was able to get it. He ran for it and I ran after him." She smiled a bit. "And then I tackled him and retrieved it. At which point you came into the picture."

James dutifully wrote everything down. He didn't tell the girl that nothing would come of it. Sure, the guy might serve some community service or something, but attempting to snatch a purse... Well. The city had a lot higher priorities than seeing that someone who did that got much of a punishment.

He offered her the pad when he was done. "Read that over, make sure everything's correct, then," he also offered the pen, "sign the bottom."

Dalia read over what the officer had written. When she reached the end, she nodded, then signed her name quickly. Dalia Dent.

"And if I could just get your phone number in case we need to conduct a follow-up," he said. "After that, you're free to go."

"Right." Dalia wrote down her number quickly, then handed him back the notepad.

"Great." James took the pad and looked it over. "I'll get the charges filed right away. Thank you for coming in, Miss Dent."
