the only time you will EVER hear me talk politics
in order to keep myself from puking out of disgust, here goes:
it's not been an entire day since obama got elected, and i'm already at breaking point over whiny fucking middle-classed bitches (men and women, old and young alike--but ALL, bitches)complaining about his supposed socialist ideals and how they're going to ruin the country. i've been so unfortunate as to stumble across a couple viral myspace bulletins and an equal number of personal blogs that are inexplicably ignorant. as a disclaimer, i do NOT know everything about politics or obama's agenda, but i do know a thing or two about common sense and how to be a decent fucking person. and posts such as the following are the antithesis of such knowledge:
1) Yesterday on my way to lunch, I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed! In the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' pin. Again I laughed, as he and the homeless guy had the same political preference - a coincidence I just could not let go. When the bill came, I explained to the waiter that I was exploring Obama's redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to 'redistribute' his tip to someone who I deemed more in need - the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed off. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I'd decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful, of course. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn, even though the actual recipient 'needed' the money more than the waiter did. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow - as long as it's happening to someone else.
2) A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over. Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 of your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA. The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair??!! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smile, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican party."
first off...these were both posted by people i could consider peers. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS. the fuck do you do for a living? as a middle-classed, twenty-something year old girl, how much unnecessary wealth are you swimming in that you need to be so concerned? are you scared obama is going to personally walk into your household, confiscate your ipod, repossess your car, and declare that all of your earnings are going to be given away? both of these posts missed a major fucking point by overlooking the fact that, in these scenarious, ALL or a LARGE PORTION of earnings would be stripped from the earner and given to someone who falls under the category of "lazy," or who hasn't "earned" what they were given. don't even get me started on the connotations this scenario has for homeless folk.
secondly.... greed, any? since i think it's fair to establish without excessive explanation that minimum wages won't be lowered, nothing will be repossessed, and taxes will likely only be raised to a degree that forces the rich to be a little less filthy, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM with thinking about aiding our nation as a whole? i'm sorry, but you can't always be the raisins in the bread pudding, allowing a tiny bit of your sugary deliciousness to trickle down into the otherwise gelatinous mess that is america.
you worry about the future of the economy under obama, but have you stopped to think about what the economy would have been like if another conservative bigot was elected to office and continued to ignore the real reasons why finances are so shitty? unless you completely lack the gift of foresight, you probably just haven't thought about it if you think mccain could have done a better job. the vast majority aren't choosing to be unemployed, hungry, addicted to drugs, homeless, etc. the truth is, it's greedy fucking assholes who choose to ignore idealism, morality, and equality in exchange for cash and material items who keep this country on its knees, sucking the dick of depravity. and as casey has pointed out to me, it costs a lot of money to remain so depraved. luxury comes at huge expenses. while a relative few individuals hoard more cash than they know what to do with, it is kept from others (again, as casey has pointed out to me) who desperately turn to drugs, violence, prostitution, or succumb to insanity. you bitch about the prospect of some of your clothes-booze-entertainment money going toward government programs as if it doesn't already. "all of that becomes a HUGE burden on the economy. housing people in jails, mental hospitals, treating them at the ER." instead of pumping our money into the effects of corruption, what's so wrong with preemptively placing our money in programs that actually help solve and prevent these problems?
just on a side note, i should be fucking president. but i'm not done. i still have quite a bit of potential to puke and i'm not stopping until my stomach is settled.

"Now I’m not AGAINST Obama because he’s black, or anything like that, at ALL. BUT! How much do you want to bet a lot of people voted for him because he IS black?? [And for the record, I do know that the majority of Obama's votes came from WHITE people, and a small percentage of black, and even smaller of Hispanics.]I'm hoping they've voted because they want to get a democrat in the white house, as we've had a republican in the white house since, what, the 60's? I am upset McCain lost. But I'm not going to walk around bitching continually about how we should have won. What I'm dreading is the Obama supporters being a-hole's to us because they won, and we didn't. They've been uppity and almighty since he started running, and I'm sure they wont slow down any time soon. And like many of us, I'm concerned about the black population believing they won.
