(x-posted everywhere, sorry)
When I moved the TakaWiki over to my private server, it was meant to be a stop-gap measure while we figured out what was wrong with the original server. Going back to the original server is no longer an option, but I think it would be nice to have the TakaWiki back on a dedicated server again (with its own DNS). Among other things, it means it can be handed on to another web mistress with minimal fuss when the time comes that I can no longer look after it.
I really love the shared hosting service that I use (
Surpass Hosting), who have amazing customer service and have always treated me like a queen (I never would have gotten the tikiwiki installed and running without their help and advice), but they don't offer PHP 5.5 (which we need to upgrade to tikiwiki 13.1). Does anyone have a suggestion of a reliable shared hosting service which does offer 5.5? Particularly one that you've used and have good evidence that the customer service reps are reliable and knowledgeable.
My service right now is a legacy from the former iteration of Surpass, so it's fairly cheap. Still, even if we were to purchase their current unlimited disk space/unlimited bandwidth hosting package, it would only be $17/mo if we paid for 3 years up-front ($612). I'd like to do it as a fixed fundraiser (think Kickstarter), so if we don't meet our goal, everyone gets their contributions back and we scrap the idea, so I was thinking of using
Indiegogo. Add in a year's domain name registration, and we're probably looking at another $13 ($625 total). Calculate in their 4% fee for a successful campaign, and we'd need to raise $650.
Very doable, I think, considering our large and generous fandom. What do you all think?
