The 2019 Rugby World Cup and 2020 Paralympics in the nearby sports facilities means that the Nippon Seinenkan hotel in Tokyo is shutting down from the end of April 2015 until spring of 2017. They're dismantling the building and relocating it. This means that the last Takarazuka show at the current Nippon Seinenkan will be in February of 2015.
The revue started performing at the Nippon Seinenkan Hall on a semi-regular basis around 1987.
I was really surprised to read this news, and more than a little saddened. I have some great memories seeing shows at that theater, and especially of crazy irimachi and demachi there.
I thought it might be fun to share memories of the theater here in the community. Does anyone have any good stories or memories?
I remember the first time I was looking for the line-up places I was so completely lost before I was directed to that little bay around the side of the building. And I felt like I was on the subway at rush-hour in there! But I also have memories of meeting some really great friends there as well, because those kinds of smaller shows often work really well to encourage people to join clubs of underclassmen.
