If you didn't know, SixTONES posted an FC vid to celebrate today as their 1st debut anniversary. Well, we got nothing else going on aside from BokuBoku MV later today so might as well, right?
They were reading comments from fans giving them 'points' and issues to judge.
Lots of people watched it and thought the points made no sense.
It was like "Juri's MC is really stable, feels anshin to watch!" Point: 1 (from a full mark of 6 Points)
Or "I want you guys to showcase your characters more!" Point: 2.
After ranting around I found out from my Japanese friends that they weren't judging by points when they answered the questionnaire. They only choose whether its "tottemo yokatta" or "motto ganbatte" or "chotto tarinai", but had no idea that there'd be points connected to their choices and their comments, which is why the comments can be gushing but then the points are really low, and they just made the boys stand there and read people judging them ://
A Stotan I talked to said if she knew there'd be points she wouldn't have chosen her choices, none of the stotans I talked too were trying to be harsh critics but it ended up looking like that cause of the point system out of nowhere OTZ
It was really awkward to watch, tbh. SixTONES are professional so you don't really see since they still joke around, but compare this to their Xmas video where they're genuinely having fun (and they were a lot busier and a lot more exhausted nearing Xmas, so exhaustion is not an excuse rn they got nothing going on aside from Hokuto). The difference is stark.
And this is supposed to be a happy occassion of their debut anniversary video, who came up with the shitty point system? Do all FC anniversary videos have this format of groups standing around getting judged? What's the pointttt. Not everything should be variety-fied or owarai-fied to make it 'exciting' by tacking on points like this. It's fine to let group members just interact happily on such a momentous occasion. Not everything should be edgy entertainment. Honestly you can see the members caught by surprise in some moments and even the stotans who should be happy their comments are getting read are in shocked cause the points made them sound way harsher than they meant to. It's a video concept that made nobody happy OTZ
On their 1st ever debut anniversary.
If the staff came up with this, lemme tell you, you don't have to try to do super-sassy-comedy on a kinenbi. Although I have a hard time believing lowly staffs can be allowed to come up with systems like this all by themselves without approval from the jimusho and for that I say: PTO dude. You don't have to try to be like ANN where Juri and the listeners poke fun at each other. ANN has a different vibe. Don't be try-hards on an important day, jimusho.
I wanna hug the boys and all stotans now, especially the ones who were heartbroken that their comments got misconstrued as low points. I'm sorry, you all deserve better.
PS: This was after Taiga talked about mental health and online abusive comments T.T
