Forager

Well, it was nice while it lasted...
But it looks like I'll be in the market for a new roommate a lot sooner than I had anticipated.

To bring you up to speed, my roommate made some wild-ass decision a couple of months ago to propose to his girlfriend. Cut to today and he's looking to bail on our lease six months early so he can live with her after her lease runs out in February. He's not ready to walk on the agreement just yet, I suppose -- he's a decent guy, so he instead decided to bring up the possibility of finding a replacement. The problem, though, is that I will not likely find a potential roommate with the means to cover his truly ridiculous $900-some portion of the rent.

So, as I see it, I'm left with a few options:1) Advise him to tell his girlfriend to be patient while he waits out the next six months paying for a place he barely uses.

2) Attempt to find some way to accommodate her moving in here with us, though I sincerely doubt this suggestion would go over all that well with any of the parties involved.

3) Find a cheap studio or one-bedroom apartment for myself so she can move in here and take over my portion of the lease, though I would likely have to go back to the suburbs for this solution to work from a financial standpoint.

4) Ask one of my single apartment-dwelling friends to make a quick decision to move into a smaller, cheaper two-bedroom apartment with me somewhere in the city.

5) Request for her to take on a month-to-month lease while we get this shit figured out.
Fuck. Let's be honest here -- I would never have agreed to this arrangement had I known my roommate would be looking to back out after less than half of our lease term. I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that, if push comes to shove, he is going to take the totally honorable route and not stick me with rent payments I couldn't afford of his salary, let alone my own. That's always a plus.

Regardless, though, this situation fucking sucks. And I'm not thrilled with the prospect of having to move for the fourth time in two years, either.

Hell of a way to start a new decade, right?
Ugh.
