Surrounded by awesome

It's been just a few days since I finally got around to watching two episodes of the anime TV adaptation of The World God Only Knows. It certainly seemed similar to the first few chapters of the original manga (which I read one, maybe two years ago). Not bad, mostly just a dumb comedy.

You know what struck me this time? There was a scene in which Keima is shopping for romance games. The store he's in is not like anything I've seen in real life. Yes, I have been fortunate to find bookstores which carry untranslated novels, comics, CDs, and a few videos. And I have been fortunate to shop at independent stores which carry vintage general audience video games, and a handful of imports. But I haven't been in an import game-specific store in several years. And despite my con-going adventures, I've only seen one retailer which carries even a modest number of import PC romance games. (That would be Hendane.)

Someday, I'd like to be inside a shop which has more than a few romance games. I might have to go all the way to Akibahara, or perhaps Otome Road, to get that sort of experience. The big question, though... would it be worth it? I might have confidently said "Yes" a few years ago. But lately, I'm becoming more interested in indie/freeware games, and iOS games. And to be honest, if I'm gonna travel overseas, then the trip should be more focused on classical culture, and not so much on spending money with pop culture ephemera.

Also, for those who deeply care about LJ icons, I'll soon be using a TWGOK icon created by a person called Experienced.
