austin city limits

Mar 04, 2005 00:03

this week was all about austin.

mon, tue, wed, and fri, sat, sun (3 day demo) was/will be spent mostly traveling to the new 80,000 sq ft whole foods flagship store/world headquarters (grand opening was on march 3). the store is on 1 floor, with the corporate offices above it.

"It features a 25,000-square-foot roof garden and plaza with 200 shaded seats, a space for entertainers, a playscape, flowing stream, native landscaping and prime city views." - wfm website

our tofu egg rolls are in the asian aisle, while our tofu tamales are in the latin/south american aisle. while i'd prefer to have all our products together in a vegan set, the usual categorization can't be avoided.

east meets southwest

> the "muchas gracias, abel" in the lower right is so abel could tell his friends back home that he helped us launch our new item.
> while it says "25 yrs of..." we are actually 27. wfm is officially 25 yrs old and a national phenom. not that we want to be a tofu juggernaut, but funny how big of a gap exists between our respective quarter centuries.

should be fun demoing there. i'm glad to be back in austin. since our falling out with heb central market, i've remained in houston. the interesting thing is the wfm headquarters is within 10 miles of 2 central markets, so i'm positive that central market execs will be at the new store checking out what they have. and when they see me, they will understand that when you bite the hand that feeds you, someone else gets fed.
