tour de (tofu eggroll) force
fri - instead of flying southwest for 45 minutes to dallas, oscar and i used the isuzu to head to ft. worth, via austin. we had tofu eggrolls for the two central markets in austin, to bolster whatever super bowl crowd those stores would face. left houston around 3:30am, finished both austin store drop-offs around 6:30, and reached dallas at 10:30. final odometer reading in ft. worth - 406
the demo highlight… being a slow friday, i allowed a customer to mistakenly dunk her tofu eggroll sample into her own cup of coffee (usually i’d say “HEY! that’s coffee you’re about to dunk in! you’d be better off dunking in our pineapple tomato sauce instead.”). yeah, so i broke the cardinal rule of demoing. being composed and stately, she took a bite of the coffee-soaked eggroll, and dunked the rest in her sauce. “above average adaptive capabilities... these humans are a crafty species, indeed.”
sat
customer with a south african accent - don’t you remember me? we were discussing how despicable your curry flavor was last time!
gary - oh, NOW i remember you!
customer w.a.s.a.a. - now let me have one of your regular flavored ones.
- got the phone # and address of a 60+ yr old customer. i don’t know why joyce gave me her address, since i only asked for her #.
overall the day was slow, but the evening had bigger crowds than i expected. i had a burger king crossan’wich for breakfast. for dinner, a pho in a chinatown in richardson, tx, sized XL… i will never attempt any XL pho again. a sign of waning youthful braggadocio, yes.

we didn’t anticipate significant tofu eggroll sales after 3pm, so we wrapped up pretty early. huntsville, tx … the town where the prisons are the number one employers, and people waiting to die… i actually caught a glimpse of one of the facilities, as we drove by… double-fences, both laced with barbwire, orange floodlights. with a few words omitted, i could be describing a chicken processing plant.
