- san antonio -the tofu eggroll embargo imposed on the san antonio store on sept 17 has been lifted. i had received a few complaints from san antonio customers while demoing in dallas to the effect of "why can't i buy this in the san antonio store?" ... i only answered "ask the san antonio store."
probably burdened by the weight of similar complaints, tony, the specialty foods manager of the SA store, called me this morning to resolve the situation. i told him how shitty his receiving department is. negotiation concluded.
a disagreement settled after one simple phone call. 3-4 months later, pissed off customers, and resulting lost sales... was it worth all that? as far as i'm concerned, the SA store got the message i was sending. banyan foods is small, but we gotZ the weight.
business is sometimes reduced to this pettiness. everyone loses, but the one who has the most to lose, will forward the first signs of reconciliation.
- dallas - the demo coordinator recently proposed that we be charged for the oil that we use during eggroll frying. crazy. houston and ft. worth has never brought up the fact that we are using up their oil... i guess that's because they understand that by us using their fryers, they get increased sales in return. maybe i should start charging dallas employees each time they eat eggrolls. despite employees eating 3-4 eggrolls a day, why didn't i ever think of this? (answer - b/c i'm a nice guy) all i have to say is they better not start any drama. drama is bad for business (see "san antonio" above).
- miami - no, i'm not demoing there. but the
SoyFoods Summit 2003
is being held there. tofu kingpins and soy robber barons. and i'm the earl of soystershire. what if i came to town wearing a "Tofu" four finger ring, encrusted in mad ice? what if i came to town with a huge "Tofu" buckle around my 31" waist all gold 'n shit?..... damn, wake up, wake up!
- ft. worth - this past weekend was a pretty good demo. convinced some people that tofu eggrolls should be next to their black eyed peas come jan 1.
i saw boxes of turduckens.. they run about $70.
the number of times people use the word "addiction" regarding our tofu eggrolls - 6

me and "9inchtofu" (yes, katiekat... all your dreams.... have come true....) went to see it. good stories are when you lose hope in the film... even when you know the big actors will be in the next installment.
