Uncounted Casualties of War

Apr 25, 2008 18:15

With estimates for the total direct cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ranging upwards of $2 trillion (these direct costs, of course, do not include the cost of the massive economic "side-effects" of the wars), it's worth noting that the average college graduate in the United States can expect total lifetime earnings of about $2.1 million according to a U.S. Census Bureau report.

So, next time someone tries to tell you that the war has cost over four thousand U.S. lives, remind them that- even should they choose to ignore the toll on non-U.S. civilians- they're about a million short.
