"So yeah, I'm here still--not abandoning LJ, just kind of didn't have much to say.
That having been said, I need some help publicizing something. I've got two local friends enduring a crisis, and I'm hoping that a little virtual activism might help them.
My friends, Ed and Tim, have been partnered for a decade now. Tim is a Canadian national living in the US. However, his visa is about to expire, and he's being forced to leave the country for a year--tearing him away from his partner, Ed. Both have made multiple attempts to avert this disaster, but it's looking grim. Obviously, if they enjoyed heterosexual privilege, this would be a non issue. Likewise, if GLBTs enjoyed marriage equality, this would also be a non issue. Theirs is another reason why the issue of marriage equality needs to stay on everyone's minds until we've achieved victory.
I've convinced them to put up a Facebook community, as a means of focusing attention on both their individual struggle and the larger struggle in which they find themselves caught up:
