4th Petal | [Action]/[Voice]

[Beast has not been outside his tiny apartment in the Welcome Center since he's retrieved his precious rose from the Item Shop, and has been consequently spending his entire time examining the thing almost obsessively.  Is it okay?  It seems to be okay.  Actually, Beast hasn't seen it drop a single petal in all the time he's had it, which is ( Read more... )

[... Oh, it's the Beast again. Robert hasn't heard from him in awhile.]

... Ah... I s-suppose you could say we are... alright.

Debatably. [For a set definition of "alright".]

... What about yourself?

[That night was terrifying for everybody. Robert was thoroughly convinced they were all going to die.]

... A-As much as could... b-be expected for, er, the circumstances, correct...?

[... That would've been Beast's first experiment. Robert can't help but feel a pang of sympathy.]

... I, er, m-must say: that was... a r-rather unusual occurrence, even for... Luceti.

[Oh, true, there was that. ... That wasn't nearly as traumatic, though.]

... F-Fortunately, such... t-traumatic events are... much rarer.

... The whole process is... f-frustratingly random, and... t-trying to ascertain any real sort of consistency is... n-nearly futile.

... As f-far as I have been here, yes. They... c-claim the experimentation is... f-for a purpose. Specifically, for... l-learning to, er, send us home...

... [Not that he trusts that particularly much anymore.]

... We never have any... r-real way of knowing what they will be of.

We all h-have. ... The information is just... p-painfully difficult to glean...

[There is an undercurrent of frustration at Robert's voice, obviously not directed at the Beast but rather at the repeated failures of being able to learn anything.]

... We t-try regardless, though.

... To... o-obtain, although it is mostly hidden.

[Strange terminology. He sometimes forgets that his words are mostly foreign to others.]

... It d-does not help that there is... s-so little technology here.

... I see. [He wishes he could see these Malnosso people himself; the more he hears about them, the less he likes that they seem so invisible.]

Tech... t-techno... logy?

[How do you explain something as fundamental as technology?]

... Devices or... pr-practises used to... do things, essentially. The technology here is... b-backwards, to me.

[... To put it lightly.]

... I understand that this... v-varies highly depending on the world one comes from...

[... That is almost so broad that he's not even sure he got anything out of that.]

H-how... does it depend... o-on the world?

... M-Many ways, I would think. Time period, development stages, wh-what sort of culture one has...

[Musingly:] ... I s-suppose, if you recognize such things as a s-stove and a refrigerator, then your t-technology level is about "twenty-first century"...

[This is a lot of stuff he's never had to think about before. He's really just mostly confused with a good chunk of this topic.]

I... do not know what those are. [Not that he's from that century anyway. He's trying not to think about how there's people that far into the future from him...]
