For any of you who have been following my personal (though not journal-revealed) search for a job, this is an announcement that the search is over.
Since the week before Christmas I have indeed been out of work, though two weeks before Christmas I was still the store manager of Petecetera in Oakville. Now working in a management role got me conditioned to a certain KIND of work and a certain PAYCHECK size, and though I did not KEEP my job at Petcetera I was not willing to compromise TOO MUCH on either of those job-specifications. This decision, I thought, was keeping me out of work for a longer period of time, but I truely believed it was a good decision on my part.
After some time of struggle I stepped off my high horse to persue regular old retail jobs, or even *gasp* coffee shop barrista jobs as I had been doing prior to my promotion to supervisor at Higher Groundz Cafe. I learned VERY quickly that the previous decision I had made to find a higher paying and higher quality job was not even my decision to make, as every other job I had apllied for was quick to point out that I was over qualified and they wouldn't hire me based on the assumption that I would expect more money and more freedom and while working for whomever was dumb enough to hire me, would be searching for a job more my style, and then I would quit.
So management found me under qualified, and everyone else found me over qualified. I was stuck. So I rewrote my resume. THREE TIMES. and kept each rewrite. One was for the regular jobs, where I neglected to mention, without lying of course, that I was a store manager anywhere. One was for those management jobs where I simply left out all my non-management related experience. And the third was to fall back on as a receptionist/admin asst. resume with all my previous paperwork and computer filing jobs.
This proved to be the best decision I had made, as Peoples Jewelers extended me a job offer as their Administrative Assistant, Lenscrafters offered me receptionist at the optomistrist office, Marla's wanted me as thier Store Manager, Jacob Connexion was looking at me for Assistant Manager, and finally, I accepted the offer of Keyholder at Dynamite in Square One.
The two paperwork jobs didn't pay near as much as the other jobs, and now with so many offers I was allowed to be picky. After being dumped into Petcetera as a manager I realized that I would much prefer to be promoted up then thrown in, as then I have time to learn my product and be a better manager, so Marla's was out. And though Jacob Connexion was looking at slightly more pay per hour than Dynamite, I wasn't sure I wanted to travel the distance to get to work EVERY day, AND Dynamite gives me the opportunity for advancement in a setting that I feel comfortable in.
So all of this rambling, for those of you who just skipped to the end, is all to say that I now work at Dynamite, in Square One, upstairs bu the Bay and across from Carleton Cards.
