yesterday we woke up to no electricity. i knew it wasn't just my house because, looking next door, their TV wasn't on (their TV is always on, i can see the light from it in my bedroom when i'm sleeping). apparently most of the city was out. like the city forgot to pay their bill. or like an elaborate April Fool's Day joke (April Fool's, no electricity!!).
school was called off because of it. even though the power was back on by seven-thirty. so the kids got a four day weekend (no school today, Good Friday).
if Good Friday is supposed to be the day Jesus died, shouldn't it be Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, Friday?
also, it's payday, and i still don't have my son's check. STILL. NOT EVEN HIS REGULAR ONE. i was on the phone with social security bright and early and it supposedly got fixed. supposedly next week i'll have it. the guy was really nice though. my ex is telling me that i need to threaten them with lawsuits and shit, but i'm not like that. i was pleasant, polite, and patient. and i shall continue to be. because threatening people is no way to get shit done.
i can't wait until tonight to see them do the
Stations of the Cross through the streets. it's an amazing sight and the energy released is so awesome. i'm not religious in any way but i love seeing it every year. even if the sermon is in Spanish. broadcast from speakers in the back of a pickup truck. with a glass casket in the back, featuring a wax Jesus. and someone dressed as Jesus carrying a life-sized cross. being followed by people dressed as Roman soldiers holding whips. followed by a hundred faithful holding candles, singing and praying. followed by some more people that are along for the journey.
now THAT'S a spectacle.
