The most recent statistics available (so recent, in fact, that I am making them up even as I write this sentence) show that the average American will change careers 2.5 times before being driven to madness by uncertainty or, if they’re lucky, death. Seven years ago, I graduated college with a bright, shiny degree in journalism. Today, I sit in a classroom at the same college to begin the task of obtaining my certification to teach high school English, but as I sit here in a classroom at my age, it’s somehow comforting to remember that even the superheroes sometimes have to try a few times before they get it right.
