Mommy Blogging

I'm sitting here on the couch and Isaac is nestled into the crook of my arm just sleeping away. The only thing that would make it better is if Lucas were here instead of giving his (super late) final.

I've been thinking about mommy blogging lately, and why I would suck at it.

It seems like moms need things to do, and these things tend to follow social trends. Like, a few years ago, all the moms did scrapbooking. Now I think the trend is what I call "mommy blogging".

To be a mommy blogger, you first need to be a mom. Second, you need a cutesy/cleverish nickname for your blog, like Blooming Babies or Mommies and Margaritas or something like that. Third, you need a gimmick, like you have a million kids or you do a new crockpot recipe every day or you live off the grid and make your own diapers.

Well, I'm a mom, if a relatively new one. And I'm sure I could come up with some sort of name. Girth Mama or Sloth Diapers or something, I'd work on it. The problem is that I don't have a gimmick.

I'm not vegan or gluten/dairy/sugar free. I don't make everything by hand and I have no qualms eating prepackaged food or not local meat. I don't craft, not to speak of. I only have the one little boy and he's a pretty standard model so far. I don't have a crusade or agenda or special insight into life. I'm pretty boring.

Actually, my attempt at mommy blogging would probably make people mad, in one way or another. But I have, on occasion, considered giving it a go, because I have something that people might like. I have *normal*.

My boy is not always dressed properly. He doesn't always wear matching clothes or designer names. He's not picture perfect. Neither is my house. The kitchen is a wreck and it's been forever since I vaccumed. I love being at home but I get mad at my husband sometimes for not being here, even though him not being here is what lets me be here. I have great thoughts and plans for crafts and never do them. I do like to cook but not fancy things and not particularly health things, either. Just normal things. I watch tv when my boy is eating and napping and I sing to him songs that are not baby songs. I don't give him enough tummy time, probably, and I don't keep up on baby mags or experts because frankly, they don't seem to know much more than me. I don't always do things perfectly but neither am I dysfunctional enough for it to be a gimmick.

So yeah, I don't think I'll follow the mommy blogger trend. There's no point in trying to carve out a niche in that crazy market when I don't need to. I'll just sit here loving my baby and watching Doctor Who and be content.
