The best TV Overmind write-up in the history of TIME. (IMHO)

Supernatural: *title censored for spoilers*.

It pretty much says all the stuff I've been meaning to write down about why I LOVED the finale ending this season, it's like the do-want list. ^.^

ETA: Companion Sam article.

I liked season 7 a LOT as individual episodes, but I def. agree that the overall themes it seemed were going to be addressed at the start sort of ended up falling by the wayside towards the second half. (Much like s6, actually.) I had no problem with the loss of support structure, but it never came back around to serve its purpose, if that makes sense.

Jared and Jensen BOTH said at the upfronts that they really hope this gets taken advantage of, and I think we all agree. I would rather Dean not come back for at LEAST an entire episode (max 3 episodes?) than do another frakking time jump. I want to see both brothers get to be total badasses all on their own. And there is no booze in Purgatory, I would assume, lol, so maybe Dean will FINALLY detox a bit? That would be nice. He's always saying he's either a monster or a warrior. I want to see him sort out the difference.

Also also, Jensen is directing an early episode again, I would LOVE it if he got SAM'S episode. In all this time, we STILL have never had a Sam episode with hardly any Dean. (Like in the Beginning or The End) I loved s4 but I still feel cheated over not seeing Sam without Dean first hand, I want to get to see that now. And I feel like THIS time, can it PLEASE be Sam's chance to FINALLY save Dean? PLEASE!?

... hee. Long comment is long.

LOL your gif!

*nod* I'm actually really sad to have lost so many supporting characters, but that's more because I feel this show would be stronger with more of an ensemble cast; I have no trouble with seeing the theme of Boys All Alone explored. It's just that they didn't really, as you say.

I'd very much like to see Dean do some detoxing (and not just to hit my h/c kink, honest :D). And yes, I would love to see him work out for himself that "monster" and "warrior" are different things. Gah, I just want the boy to get a chance to be happy a tiny bit more whole.

And I would love a really Sam-centric episode! The show's consistent trend of giving Sam more character development and Dean more screen time has always mystified me; the closest I can think of to really Sam-only eps are I Know What You Did Last Summer (with the flashback stuff) or Mystery Spot (where the isolation was emotional rather than physical, at least for most of what we saw on screen).

And I feel like THIS time, can it PLEASE be Sam's chance to FINALLY save Dean? PLEASE!?

YES YES YES. Let the boy actually succeed at something for once without breaking himself or the world in the process.

I will say: I am so happy about the possibilities offered by this turn of events. I agree with every single one of your thoughts, basically.

Aside: I appreciate that Jensen and Jared also have feelings and opinions about this stuff. I've thought for a while that they (and the rest of the SPN crew, for the most part) seem to be better than average at being celebrities; they seem to deal with all the fannish hysteria and nitpicking with good grace, and keep coming back for more. But also, they just seem to be smarter about the show they're on than a lot of TV actors I've seen. Buffy was my first fannish love, and although I got into long after it went off the air, from what I've read of panels and commentary at the time, the actors seemed to be all over the map in their understanding of what their characters were about and where their place was in the narrative. (Granted, this may be partly because there were so many more characters on Buffy.) And at no point did they seem as personally invested in their characters as Jared and Jensen seem to be. Not to they weren't professional or dedicated, but J2 seem to care about the show a little bit the way we do (or else they just have a lot of practice in pretending, which is possible).

And that's not even counting Jim Beaver and his fake yeti movie stunt, or Misha Collins, who is his own creature.
