Here's what I wrote in ficwriter's LJ about what I think was going on with Cas and Sam and Lucifer.

One of the things I'm going to write about in my own journal is how that now, Lucifer (an angel) is in the mind of Cas (another angel). Even though Lucifer is undoubtedly more powerful than Cas, still, it's a more even match than Lucifer against a human. I wouldn't be surprised if Cas were able to eventually contain Lucifer, if not rid himself of him completely.

I think of it more as an open telephone line. Rather like, as you say, when Cas would show up in Dean's dreams. Not that Lucifer was actually out and possessing Sam, but when Sam actually acknowledged Lucifer, he became more than just a representation of Sam's memories. Rather like a really evil pooka.

Basically, when the memories started leaking through as hallucinations, it was also Lucifer manipulating the hallucinations. The phone was ringing. As the wall crumbled more, Lucifer got more power over the hallucinations. The phone was ringing louder. Then when Sam outright acknowledged Lucifer, that was like picking up the phone and completing the connection.

Cas took the phone from Sam, and now Lucifer is talking to Cas on that phone line, not Sam.

Personally, I'm ready for the hallucination storyline to be done. I do not want Sam to relapse, because that to me would feel like nothing more than a rehash.

Also, regarding the "good morning" song: I got the feeling they wanted to use the one from Singin' in the Rain but couldn't get the rights. "Good mornin', good mornin'! It's great to stay up late. Good mornin', good mornin' to you."

I will have more to write in my own journal when I get the time. Um . . . stay tune?

P.S. Whoever said upthread that the mysterious . . . whatever . . . giving clues is Rufus. I LOVE THIS IDEA! Seriously. LOVE.
