Cosplay: She-Ra project underway

HAPPY NEW YEAR, I AM INSANE. Not that this will be news to all of you fine people. :)

My goal for January is to complete a cosplay of She-Ra for a group shoot that Claudia Harris wants to do for her website. I started yesterday crafting the armor out of wonderflex, a heatable moldable plastic substance that I have re-named play-dough for grown-ups. I've never crafted prop pieces or armor before, so this is a whole new thing I have to learn.

(That's how I pick my next project, actually - it has to have an element I've never done before. Snapdragon had wings, this has armor. Next I'll probably end up learning to wire electronic effects, lol. BRING IT ON, I SAY.)

My She-Ra is going to be based on this amazing fanart. I like it because it pays homage to the cartoon really well but has a more updated fantasy/badass vibe. Also after Snapdragon I decided to take it easy on the ball gowns for a while. Also I've been working out - time to show it off. ;)

The wonderflex comes in a huge roll, and you have to use a good heat source to shape it. This piece is individually cut feathers laid over a base layer, so at the bottom of it it is several layers thick. A single layer wouldn't do much in the way of being sturdy, I don't think. I have to paint it next, so there will be a lot of experimentation going on there.

Hell yes, I'm a motherf***ing princess. /Avril
