Chicago report, Monday

Dec 04, 2009 23:05

Monday blacklid, Vikki and I went to the Field museum to see the Ghost and the Darkness. And Sue. And whatever else we could find. :) If you've never been there, it's an awesome place. It was my second time but I've loved it both times. :)

They need to fix the lighting in the animal gallery, though - it's hard to get pictures. Also, I lost all the video I had of Monday because my camera burped and ate it all. *sigh*

The Ghost and the Darkness has always kind of been an obsession of mine. SEE THE MOVIE. It's excellent. For delving deeper into the legend, get the book that Patterson wrote himself.

For more research into the specific types of lions that live in Tsavo, I HIGHLY recommend 'The Ghosts of Tsavo', by Philip Caputo. It's an amazing read, written by the researcher who went back there many years after to study the area.

The lions at the museum are not the real lions, but they have their real skulls. The real lions measured over 9 feet long from head to tail.

I could go on forever, so I'll stop there. But it's pretty terrifying, if you've never heard of them. As someone who used to be a zookeeper, I find them fascinating.

They had an unusual collection of pigeons, too - they made me lol.

Shapes in nature. Let's play Ispy.
*picks out favorite*

This isn't their section, but speaking of Things That Are Relevant ... y'all might want to look into the Hopewell Tribe.
O.O

FLYING MONKEY!!

Blood scrying bowl.

Owl warriors.

Snake sculpture that I liked.

*hoots*

We went to the Navy Pier and ate Chicago style pizza.
*yum*

Charlie's Ale House; where time runs backwards.
*winks*

This was pretty, I'll admit that even though I'm TERRIFIED of ferris wheels.
Don't judge me.

*clings*

Stealing wifi from the Starbucks before catching our plane home.

I'm going to make a separate post for this - but it occured to me (several cons ago, but I'm slow, lol) that I want to have all of my lj friends, or anyone that I've met at a con sign a poster to go across from my SPN poster in my study. This will be a MAILING project, like a chain letter. Just a heads up so y'all guys know that I'm thinking about it.

It was a great con and I wouldn't trade a second I got to spend with my friends. Hopefully I'll see some of you crazy nuts again soon!

*hugs*

flail, cons: chicago con, blacklid sucks me into things, sadness, anansi boys
