So today I signed up to the Anthony Nolan Trust's Bone Marrow Donor register. I tell you, these last two days I've been positively saintly :D I have a hole in my arm now from the blood sample they took, but I reckon it's a good hole, all things considered. So now people all over the world can be compared with me and find out if my bone marrow can save their lives :)
Seriously, I've been meaning to do it for ages. I think it's a good thing to do. I like the idea of helping people like that. For instance, in two weeks' time I'm looking to go give blood properly (assuming the sample they took today doesn't disqualify me.) And when I'm qualified and working and everything I want to volunteer for the Samaritans, work on the phones. I remember reading an article by someone who does it years ago and it's stuck with me.
Basically I want to help people... it's why I'm going into a medical-type profession. I want to make a difference, and I want to make the effort to make a difference. That's all there is to it.
