Drive By Argument- lower your pieces

Open your hand, and show me whats inside,
Let me explain these shuffling feet, and tired arms.
Do up your coat, to protect yourself, from what has been, and the end of all things.

Let the wind blow across your face,
In a see of smiles, you are the only one in tears,
So they came to lighten my load,
And they were singing:

What was it for?
What was it for?
What was it for? What was it for?
What was it for? What was it for?

So look around, mostly the view is beautiful,
But theres more than just fingertips,
So in this room, separated from the world,
I sully my own values, for the sake of others.

So hold this glass, cos it keeps cutting me,
And try to focus on the image of a goodbye,
And try not to cry,
And Im singing

What was it for?
What was it for?
What was it for? What was it for?
What was it for? What was it for?

It plays like slow motion, in my mind,
One more kiss, one more heart-wrenched sigh,
And well both sleep alone tonight,
And silhouettes of desperate thoughts,
Dance like shadow puppets, behind the curtain in my mind.
And these eyes that were once blind, now see.

And there is still enough time for us,
Accept these apologies, letters written on piano keys.
Sitting in this car, listening to this rain,
Watching as the concrete fills my veins.
Sleep, my love. Sleep.
And when you wake,
Nothing will have ever changed.
I promise.

It plays like slow motion, in my mind,
One more kiss, one more heart-wrenched sigh,
And well both sleep alone tonight,
And silhouettes of desperate thoughts,
Dance like shadow puppets, behind the curtain in my mind.
And these eyes that were once blind, now see.
