I received a letter from my Ate in the Philippines. This is part of the letter that I am wanting to be sure I understand. She really is asking me to be one of her son's ninang, right? Oh by the way, is it okay with you if you become godmother to Buby on his/her dedication? It will take place on July 11, Saturday. You're one of the godmothers, okay...hope you say yes..

I'm not sure about the dedication part but I'm guessing it refers to the baptism? And, you're not misunderstanding. :D She really wants you to be one of the godmothers.

In essence this means your relative wants you to be at the ceremony. Ceremony-wise it's a little like being asked to be one of the main witnesses at the wedding. In the long run this partly means you keep in touch with the family, particularly with the baby (and you give gifts during birthdays and Christmas).
