A "banal" survey...ha HAH!

How do you pronounce the word "banal"? The other day, I was conversing with a friend of mine, when he haphazardly spoke the word "banal", pronouncing it as though it rhymes with "annul". Needless to say, I was quite taken aback and, to be honest, a little bit offended. I myself have always pronounced it with the long A, rhyming with ANAL. Naturally, my way must have been correct, but just to be sure, I checked dictionary.com and the American Heritage Dictionary's thoughts on the word's usage. According to 'the experts', 2% of those surveyed prefer the pronunciation that rhymes with 'panel', 38% that which rhymes with 'anal', 46% that which rhymes with 'canal', and a SCANT 14% the pronunciation rhyming with 'annul', my friend's apparently very incorrect usage of the word. Which do you use? And more importantly, do you even give a FUCK?!

b) rhymes with 'canal'
c) rhymes with 'panel'
d) rhymes with 'annul'
