Christmas Eve, a cautionary tale

Dec 24, 2008 11:03

The downfall of the American people will not come from a foreign power, principality or the Antichrist. With apologies to Walt Kelly I have seen the enemy and it is us.

We should be less concerned with the war on terror and more concerned with the war on mediocrity. We are a nation where ignorance begets complacency.

Adults, teenagers and children now converse in a lackadaisical dialect as their thumbs fumble recklessly over multicolored points of light -- A corruption of the mother tongue that ultimately degrades us all.

People who once spoke to no others were once institutionalized in the futile effort to restore their sanity and now it is a commonplace sight with the advent of the Bluetooth.

Where verdant promises come a century to late we still covet fossil-burning SUV's and in our avarice we trample Wal-Mart employees.

In the end you are either a sheep, sheppard or a wolf (I being the unique little snowflake just like everyone else am the coyote) and the choice really is up to you to decide on which side of the fence you fall.

To the future generations to come I leave with but a humble warning: Read, learn, think and repeat not our folly.

rant, christmas, xmas
