GoF movie

Saw GoF movie for the first time tonight. Yeah, I know, no news to anyone here... But try to see a version not mangled by dubbing in the backwoods of Germany. Not that easy...

So, here's my first reaction. Just bits and pieces, no coherence to be expected. I wish I could see it again right now, just to see all the things I've missed.

That was quite good. Much better than PoA. MUCH better than that. I actually liked it. Maybe it's because I could, I don't know, connect emotionally. In PoA, there was so much rubbish (shrinkheads?!?) that I forgot to feel the movie, to feel with the characters. This one was different. I laughed a lot, and I liked it.

All that teenage awkwardness was very well captured.

And I could, for the first time, realize the immensity of what had happened when Harry gets back to the Maze after the graveyard scene. These things work a lot via sound for me, and while the facial expression of Harry was still not spectacular, I believed his sobs, and even more I believed the grief of Mr. Diggory. Very touching.

Voldemort. I would not go so far to call him Hotdemort, but he was good. My sister, who saw the movie with me, thought he was not evil or charismatic enough. But I rather liked the understatement of it all. I would have hated to see a caricature of a cartoon megalomaniac, a raving madman. He's more believable and more frightening this way. I missed the red eyes a bit, but other than that, really good.

Lucius. Do I have to say more? I love Lucius! They'll have to make a movie for Lucius alone one day...

The head-in-the-fire thing was quite different than I imagined it. Don't know yet if I liked that.

Dragons! Very good. Loved them. Why didn't they show more of them? And why didn't they show the Chinese Fireball, at least the miniature? Same goes for the Quidditch World Cup. I want to see more of that flying! Will there be an extended DVD? There better be.

I missed a few scenes that I remember from the book as being crucial (at least for me). No "big-boned", insulted Madam Maxine. No meeting Sirius in the cave. Not enough Rita Skeeter. Don't get me wrong, I loathe that character, with all my heart, almost as much as that Umbridge woman. But the whole slander thing was quite important to me in the book, it added nicely to the load Harry had to carry. And how will they get her to write that article in OotP if Hermione doesn't have her in the glass?

Well, that's it for now. I'd really like to see it again right away. But there's not a chance in hell...

When did you say the DVD was coming out? :)
